Ronnie Brandt to Join Stormin' Norman at Sallee Tee's Tonight

Americana musician will rock Monmouth Beach with the local legend.

Stormin’ Norman returns to Sallee Tee’s Waterfront Grille located at 33 West Street in Monmouth Beach tonight from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Two weeks ago, Stormin’ Norman Seldin and Pam McCoy performed to a packed Sallee Tee’s, with people waiting outside, trying to get in.

“People came to the show from Nashville,” explained Seldin. He also was very excited about the numerous musicians that attended to join in the party. “I guess they look at me as some kind of icon,” Seldin shyly stated.

This isn’t bad for a guy that suffered an aortic dissection and was predicted to die by doctors at Jersey Shore University Hospital approximately 9 years ago.

According to the book “Local Heroes,” which contains stories about many Asbury Park musical luminaries, Seldin was the first musician to drag Clarence Clemons into a recording studio environment. Seldin has a whole chapter in this book by Anders Martensson and Jorgen Johansson dedicated to him.

Along with many other surprises, Seldin’s special guest for this Thursday will be Ronnie Brandt. “Brandt does a spectacular ‘Mr. Bojangles’,” stated Seldin. Bringing his Americana style to this special duo, Brandt and Seldin are expecting to dazzle the crowd with some Jerry Jeff Walker, Hank Williams, Sr., Carole King, John Prine and Bob Dylan material.

Seldin also stated that he expects to perform some new originals, which are being produced by Doc Holiday in Nashville. The CD is expected to be released in early 2012.

Brandt is a local musician that was once a member of Freewheelin’, a country – rock band that was based out of Texas. Just as Seldin left New Jersey to find his musical niche, so did Brandt. Lucky for us, both of these talented performers made their way back to the Garden State.

Referring to it as a “History Hoe-down,” Brandt created “This Land Is Your Land,” which is a school program designed for elementary and Middle School students. Through music, Brandt gives these kids an American History lesson. He does this through the music of artists like Woody Guthrie, The Carter Family, Hank Snow and Johnny Cash.

Having rehearsed with Brandt for three hours on the day of this phone interview, Seldin appears ready to once again expect the unexpected. “Two weeks ago, I ended up doing a 40 minute encore,” added Seldin.
