The latest round of winter weather has led to power outages across the region, according to the Jersey Central Power & Light outage map.

Over 3,000 were without power Thursday at around 9:15 a.m. Freehold Township was most affected with 963 losses reported. Freehold Borough was next with 585. Colts Neck, Manalapan, Millstone and Tinton Falls each had over 300 outages. Some 104 households lost power in Wall.

Other towns reporting more than five outages were Englishtown, Howell, Little Silver and Marlboro.

Huh. I started checking the outage map shortly before 10:48 and have done so at least every hour thereafter, and saw no outages reported for Long Branch. Lots of little bitty 1-20 customer outages, but no big ones. What's that about?

Hi Swift Loris - if you click the Summary tab on the map, then the Outages by county link, you'll get a pop up that will allow you to drill down by town to see the number of outages.

Thanks, Jacklyn. I do know how to use the map (getting the outages by county and "drilling down"), and none were shown for Long Branch from about 10:30 on, nor any of the more substantial ones you list as of 10:48 in other towns. There were around 20 (now down to 9 as of 4:45) of the 1-20 outages scattered throughout the county, but they didn't begin to add up to 7,000. I have the sense the map may be seriously unreliable, which is depressing.
