Little Silver Newcomers Produce Nice Haul for Kortney Rose Foundation

Club earned over $2200 for the pediatric cancer nonprofit.

Children had the opportunity to play with something bigger then your average hot wheels this past weekend.

The Newcomers’ Club of Rumson, Fair Haven, Little Silver and Shrewsbury raised more than $2200 at its held on Saturday, October 1st in Fair Haven to benefit The Kortney Rose Foundation for pediatric brain tumor research.

Touch-A-Truck, which is sponsored by the Newcomers’ Club every fall, is a fun and exciting event where kids of all ages can sit on, climb on and honk the horns and sirens of trucks of all types. More than 150 families were in attendance to play with the trucks, have their faces painted and enjoy sweet concessions all for the benefit of the community.

“Once again, Touch-A-Truck didn't disappoint! There were so many interesting vehicles for our son to explore. He especially liked the fire truck and police car,” said Katie Gay, a Fair Haven resident who attended this year for the second time. “It was a great family day and all for a wonderful cause.”

The once again donated the use of its property for the event and local police departments, EMS teams and private businesses donated their trucks and time for the cause.

The Club will donate all $2200 of its proceeds to The Kortney Rose Foundation, which is the Club charity for the 2011-2012 year. The Kortney Rose Foundation is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to raising funds to support research and education related to the treatment and cure of pediatric brain tumors.

Last year, the Newcomers’ Club donated more than $19,000 to the Lifeguard Ecumenical Foundation and hopes to duplicate this success for Kortney Rose.

“It has been rewarding for our charity to be a part of the fundraising efforts for The Kortney Rose Foundation, and to raise money in a way that was so exciting for all the children makes the experience even better,” said Lori Missig, who is the Fundraising Chair for the Club.

In addition to the Touch-A-Truck Fundraiser, the Newcomers’ Club will host two other events that are open to the public: a Harvest Wine Tasting on November 4th at in Red Bank and “Lucky Name,” an evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and prize auctions at McLoone’s in Long Branch on February 9th.

Proceeds from these events will also be donated to The Kortney Rose Foundation.  For more information or if you are interested in attending either of these events, please contact Lori Missig (lpvu98@aol.com) or visit the Newcomers’ Club’s Website: http://www.newcomersclubinc.com/.
