Island Nights Delivers Fun and Funds for Aslan Youth Ministries

On Saturday evening, Bill and Beverly Van Winkle hosted the 12th Annual Island Nights on Breezy Point in Little Silver

Island Nights benefits Aslan Youth Ministries based in Red Bank, and is the largest fundraiser of the year for the group. Held on Breezy Point in Little Silver, the evening featured Caribbean cuisine catered by , live entertainment by the Beth Ann Clayton Band, a special production by the Aslan Choir, and sailboat and powerboat rides on the Shrewsbury River.

The evening also featured live and silent auctions, a vacation raffle for a trip to St. Lucia, a 50/50 raffle and a Chance Auction.  If you purchased a champagne glass, the key you received with the glass may have opened up a treasure chest to reveal that you won one of three fabulous trips.  There was a $20 cork pull, where everybody who played won, when you purchased a cork you won the bottle of wine that it matched.

There were many ways to play and win!  But the real winners of the evening were the children of Aslan who benefited greatly.  John Baier from New York Life Foundation and his wife Denise were at the event to present Aslan Youth Ministries with a grant for $10,000.

Founded in 1975 by Craig and Lynn Bogard, Aslan Youth Ministries empowers impoverished youth in Red Bank, Long Branch and Asbury Park to overcome difficult circumstances.

“Children who struggle with poverty every day can have trouble recognizing their unique value,” explains Aslan Executive Director Doug Eagles. “At Aslan, we believe that with a values-based support system of compassionate adults, every child can blossom into a servant leader. They just have to be guided along their path of service. That service might begin with cleaning up beaches or fixing houses right here in Monmouth County.  Then, when our young people are ready, they’re able to magnify their leadership at our Mission in Haiti.”
