A Dog Named Bear Again Without a Home

For a while there it was good news. Bear, an 11-year-old German Shepherd being boarded as a charity case at an area Red Bank animal hospital, , Gertrude "Trudie" Poole.

Poole, 71, a dog lover who was described by her obituary as an animal rights activist, died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune at the end of September. .

Bear, a certified therapy dog, looked to have been adopted after Patch first ran an article highlighting his plight a week ago. Unfortunately, a dispute with the new would-be owner and a landlord with a strict no large breed dog policy has found Bear back at the animal hospital waiting for adoption.

Once again, Bear is without a home.

According to Poole's friend, Angelina, who declined to provide her last name, Bear is in good health for his age and is very good with people. He is likely not a good fit for homes with other dogs, however. This puts Bear in a precarious position as it eliminates a large segment of the anima-loving population that already has a pet.

Bear is not used to going on walks since Poole was unable to take him in the last years of her life, Angelina said, though he loves to play ball in the yard. Bear also enjoys cars rides and is well behaved, Angelina said.
