New Faith-Based Sandy Aid Program Forming for Teen Volunteers

Do you know a motivated and inspired Jewish teen who wants to make a difference? Monmouth County’s new Sandy Teen Fellowship may be for them.

The Sandy Teen Fellowship program has been established by Jewish Federation of Monmouth County a full year after Hurricane Sandy because there are many people in our community still suffering the after effects of this devastating storm.  The program will engage its teen participants in direct service opportunities helping local residents recovering after the storm, the philanthropic process of allocating a portion of Sandy-related funding to recovery projects, and hands-on learning about Jewish communal values and engagement. This is a selective program that will run from January-June 2014.

The fellowship will help prepare Jewish teens to become more engaged citizens, develop skills and knowledge needed to take on leadership roles, and form meaningful bonds with a diverse group of contacts throughout the community.

If you know a Jewish high school sophomore or junior who lives in Monmouth County and is interested in gaining leadership experience, this monthly innovative social activism program may be a great fit.  Please share this information with all the teens in your congregation and encourage  those who may be interested to consider applying for the program.  Service hours will be documented so that students can report service credits to their schools and honor societies and include them on college applications.

The cost of participating in the Sandy Teen Leadership Fellows program will be $180. Scholarships will be available for those students that requiring assistance.  Applications are due by December 15, 2013 for the 2014 class.  The applicator may be accessed online at http://www.jewishmonmouth.org/sandy-teen-fellows/
