Education Foundation of Little Silver Fundraiser to Spotlight Local Talent

The Education Foundation of Little Silver (EFLS) will hold it's annual fundraiser,  Little Silver’s Got Talenton Friday, March 21 at the Shadowbrook.  Last year’s event, Dancing with the Stars, was a huge success raising $60k for Little Silver’s school system.  This year, talented Little Silver residents have come forward to strut their stuff for the sake of technology in the classroom.  The event will feature talented amateurs as well as teachers from Little Silver who will sing, dance, and share their talents -- all competing for first place in the 'talent show of the year.'  It will be a fun night out for the Two River community featuring a live/silent auction, dinner, adult beverages, and live entertainment.

The talent lineup for Little Silver’s Got Talent is shaping up to be an exciting one.  Some of the acts brave enough to show off their ‘stuff' include:

- A Collaboration of Dancers will perform their interpretation of a current radio anthem.

The mission of the EFLS is to fund technology in Little Silver classrooms -- for both Markham Place (middle school) and Point Road (elementary school).  While the school system focuses on funding foundational technology like our servers and network, the EFLS funds transformational equipment and software like SMART boards, SimCEO, special needs educational programs, and many other important items.  In fact, the EFLS currently funds 80% of the technology supported within Little Silver’s classrooms – from PreK to 8th grade.  Since 1995, nearly $600,000 has been donated to help fund technology and other educational programs for both Little Silver schools.  80% of the technology supported within the classrooms is funded by the EFLS.

The technology in our schools is not consistent from classroom to classroom, or grade to grade.  Funding is necessary to establish greater parity and replace aging equipment. From SMART boards to special project and educational software to digital equipment of varying types, there are many needs for technology investment both big and small in our schools.  In conjunction with the Little Silver Board of Education, a three year investment roadmap for the EFLS has been outlined that includes adding SMART board technology in to all grades/all classrooms – a standard in many school districts of today – as well as systematic upgrades for dated equipment.
