Red Bank Catholic Choir Set to Perform at Carnegie Hall

The Red Bank Catholic Choir will have the honor of performing at Carnegie Hall on Monday, November 25th, as the only high school choir invited to be part of the “American Festival Choir,” a group of 10 renowned adult choirs from seven states throughout the country.  In addition to selected Christmas carols, they will be performing the premier of “The Song of Christmas.”  Phil Barfoot, who composed the piece along with Rebecca J.Peck, recently spent the day at Red Bank Catholic and rehearsed  with the choir.

The choir, comprised of 50 students of all grade levels, is conducted by RBC Music Director Shawn Mack, a 2005 RBC graduate.  Mr. Mack, who has performed at Carnegie Hall himself, understands the excitement the students are feeling leading up to the event: “It is quite an honor to be asked to perform at Carnegie Hall and in concert with such talented people.  I know this is an experience our students will never forget.”

Last year, the RBC Choir was chosen from all the school choirs in the Diocese of Trenton to provide the liturgical music at the 2012 Eucharistic Congress Mass at the PNC Arts Center, attended by over 1,000 Catholic school students.  In 2010, the RBC Choir won the NJ 101.5 “Christmas Choir Contest,” voted the best high school choir in the state.

Mr. Mack and the choir are fine-tuning the 18 songs they will be singing that evening.  He is happy to share this experience with this very special and dedicated group of students, “they sound great, and I am really looking forward to hearing their voices blend with the rest of the choirs there.  This is going to be an amazing night.”
