The Oceanic Bridge, which connects Rumson and Middletown, reopened Friday after being closed seven months for repairs.
After seven months of repair work and a gathering, replete with speeches and ribbon cutting, the historic Oceanic Bridge did something this morning it hasn’t done all those months — it opened. Officials, dignitaries and residents of both Rumson and Middletown stood right at the foot of the revamped 98-foot moveable portion of the bridge that serves many surrounding communities as horns sounded and each side of the freshly painted green drawbridge rose, marking the official opening of the span to traffic. Elaine Van Develde contributed to this report.
Oceanport councilman says the borough got "the short end of the stick" in the recent deal to move CommVault to Fort Monmouth property in Tinton Falls.
I’d like to take a few moments to talk about recent matters involving the re-development of Fort Monmouth. In particular the move of CommVault from Oceanport to Tinton Falls While there are many out there praising CommVault's move, I have no praise for this move at all. Simply speaking, taking jobs from Oceanport and relocating them to Tinton Falls leaves Oceanport short 550 jobs. It also leaves our second largest taxpayer with an empty building to fill and, it takes the consumer dollars of 550 employees from our local economy. Relocating the 550 workers who currently work at CommVault in Oceanport is just that – RELOCATION of jobs, not job creation. According to press releases by local politicians and FMERA, representations have been …

Monmouth Regional Jazz Band kicks off celebration at Gibbs Hall.
The sticky wheel of Fort Monmouth redevelopment -- the property transfer agreement between redevelopers and the U.S. Army -- broke free from the mud of 15 months of negotiations, and made a full rotation Wednesday, when the two sides sat down for a ceremonial signing at Gibbs Hall. The agreement marks a significant step. It will be closely followed by federal approval of another document, the Economic Development Conveyance. After that redevelopers will be free to finally sell and lease the properties they have been marketing for more than a year. The goal is to replace the jobs the Army took with it when it left a year ago. In the banquet room of the former officer's club, James Gorman, president of the Fort Monmouth Economic …

NJ’s governor and Cory Booker channel Seinfeld in video parody for correspondents show.
Just because they're the state's two most prominent politicians doesn't mean they don't have a sense of humor. The office of Gov. Chris Christie yesterday released a lighthearted video co-starring Newark Mayor Cory Booker as a peripatetic go-to guy, riffing off his now national-scale image as a man of action following his rescue of a neighbor from a burning building several weeks ago. As the Democratic mayor of the state's largest city is depicted doing everything from coming up with a spare guitar for Bruce Springsteen to catching a falling baby, a faux-frustrated Christie hisses "Booker!" The video was produced for the New Jersey Press Association's Legislative Correspondents Club show.

Opening to come a bit sooner than anticipated
It’s news that those of us living in the Two River area have anxiously awaited. The Oceanic Bridge, which connects Rumson and Middletown over the Navesink River, is opening sooner than anticipated — mid-morning on Friday, May 18. A grand re-opening ceremony will also take place in Rumson near the bridge, with a ribbon cutting by Rumson Mayor John Ekdahl on May 21 at 4 p.m., rain or shine. Recently Monmouth County Engineer Joseph Ettore told Patch that due to the good weather, he anticipated the opening to come before Memorial Day, perhaps sooner. The sooner has become a reality. The drawbridge part, or 98-foot moveable bascule span, of the bridge was deteriorating and in urgent need of repair. A complete revamp of the 2,752-foot-long, 72-…

A parent has requested a Seven Bridges Road crossing guard stay later to see child across but officials wonder where to draw the line.
Should Little Silver consider extending a school crossing guard’s time at a busy intersection for a student who arrives five minutes after that guard’s shift ends? The Little Silver Borough Council debated a request by the parent of a Markham Place Middle School student who asked that a Point Road School crossing guard stay at Seven Bridges Road and Point Road until the child is safely crossed. Little Silver currently employs 11 crossing guards, some of whom work 45-minute shifts before and after school for $45.40 per day and some of whom work 30-minute shifts for $41.40 per day. The council’s discussion centered on whether or not it was sensible for the borough to incur an additional cost because of one parent’s request. The Point Road …

Markham Place's annual Student Government Day gave students a taste of how Little Silver works.
Little Silver's mayor and council were looking a little younger on Wednesday morning, and it had nothing to do with new moisturizers or Botox. Markham Place's eighth grade students participated in the annual Student Government Day, when, for a few hours, each student was appointed to fill a spot on the borough's many committees and departments to get a feel for the inner workings of a small town. Little Silver Mayor Robert Neff, Jr. swore in student mayor John Salcedo and his classmates to fill the borough's council and administrator spots and then the new mayor appointed the rest of the grade to positions like librarian, tax collector and the planning board member. "All these organizations work together for the benefit of the town," Neff …

President Obama made his historic pronouncement during an interview with ABC News.
President Barack Obama has publicly come out in support of gay marriage, the first time in history that a sitting U.S. President has ever done so. Obama gave the news to ABC News' Robin Roberts in an interview that will air on ABC's “Good Morning America" on Thursday. "I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don't Ask Don't Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit…
They're temporary right now, but would you like to see them remain after the work on Seven Bridges Road has been completed?
As any of us who have had to make a left hand turn onto Branch Avenue off White Road or Rumson Road at certain times of day knows, it often feels as if you are taking your life into your hands as you pull into the intersection. So while the recent news that the long-awaited temporary traffic lights for those two intersections will be up and running by mid-June -- to accommodate the pending construction on Seven Bridges Road -- may come as good news for some, other Little Silver residents are concerned more traffic will be created. Borough officials assured residents at the May 7 council meeting that there have been no discussions about keeping the traffic signals once the the work is completed. But Capt. Gary LaBruno, the borough's traffic…

However, town may gauge safety results during Seven Bridges Road closure to see if permanent signal placement is warranted.
The traffic lights that will be installed on Branch Avenue during the Seven Bridges Road closure will be temporary, Monmouth County Engineer Joseph Ettore insisted. However, if Little Silver residents observe the lights are effective safety measures, the town may want to explore whether or not permanent lights are needed. Approximately 25 residents attended the Little Silver Borough Council meeting on Monday, May 7 to voice concerns regarding the county’s planned traffic detour of Seven Bridges Road summer. Ettore was on hand to describe the bridge replacement project and answer residents’ questions. A section of Seven Bridges Road will close for six months beginning in mid-July to accommodate the replacement of a bridge near Point Road …

Pitiful old man, you're recycling my material. I already did the family being sick of you joke and the stay at home bum joke. At least be original in your posts. Left wing rhetoric is all I read from your decrepit old man posts. But you do have the dolt calvary behind you swearing you in as their messiah. More dummies than I can handle at one time, I admit. I've posted facts about Obummers …   more ›
