$10.00
There will be a little something for everyone at this year’s Red Bank Regional (RBR) Visual and Performing Art’s
(VPA) dance majors’ Winter Dance Concert, A Blast from the Past. The program features 23 dances choreographed to such iconic artists from the last fifty years including The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Queen, Madonna and many more. The show will be performed in the RBR Theatre,
located at 101 Ridge Road in Little Silver, on Thursday, January 17, at 7 pm with a repeat matinee performance on Saturday, January 19, at 2 pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Patrons can purchase tickets at the door or contact the VPA dance teacher Dorianne Murray at dmurray@rbrhs.org for
more information.
One number, Lament, a cutting edge contemporary piece, was choreographed by guest artist, Cara France, of Little Silver. Ms. France is an RBR VPA dance major alumnus and School of the Arts (Philadelphia) graduate who works as a professional dancer and choreographer. All other dances are choreographed by the RBRstudents who infuse great energy and dedication into the work they create and
perform.
Senior Ceara Irons of Neptune City choreographed Cyndi Lauper’s 1982 classic ballad Time After Time.
She comments, “It is a nice lyrical piece about someone
who will always be there for the love that left them.”
Ceara intends to major in business administration in the College of Charleston. However, she also hopes to
continue her dancing career on that college’s dance team as a Charleston Cougarette performing at many college sporting events.
Senior Samantha Lori of Red Bank chose to choreograph Zombies, the 1994 protest song by the
Irish group, The Cranberries.
She states of her creative process, “I like to have our
dancers explore their emotions with the music.”
Samantha dreams of making dancing her profession and has applied to several colleges around the country that have distinguished dance programs. She hopes to join a major dance troupe upon graduation.
This January, the public has an opportunity to see all RBR’s
dance majors perform in this winter dance concert.
