Suneagles Remains in Hands of Atlantic Golf, For Now

This week the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority awarded a new contract to the current operator of Suneagles Golf Club.

Atlantic Golf, which has run the course and Gibbs Hall for more than a year, will pay FMERA $250,000 for the length of the 18 month contract. The award is contingent upon a lease extension to FMERA by the Army, which still owns the golf course.

Suneagles is also up for sale. When the property transfers from the Army to a new owner, proceeds will be split between the Army and FMERA. FMERA by law is required to reinvest its profits back into the redevelopment of the fort.

Currently all of that land is real estate Tax Exempt because it is owned by the Federal Government. Delaying the sale and transfer of all Fort Monmouth property into Private hands is costing the communities involved a fortune in lost real estate tax revenue each year. The faster they just divide the entire fort up into blocks and put them all up for auction __the fast the communities will start getting some real estate tax revenue .
