Who's Getting Power Next in Little Silver

Mayor Robert Neff shares where JCP&L workers will be restoring service next in the borough.

A message from Little Silver Mayor Robert C. Neff, Jr.:

JCP&L continues to work on restoring power. About a third of Little Silver customers remain without power as of November 8, 2012. JCP&L advises that on November 8 and 9, 2012, it will be working on restoring power to the following streets:

  • Azalea Court
  • Branch Avenue
  • Byram Lane
  • Clearbrook Court
  • Country Lane
  • Crest Drive
  • Fox Hill
  • Greenfield Court
  • Harding Road
  • Heights Terrace
  • Heritage Court
  • Highfield Court
  • Laurelwood Drive
  • North Lovett Avenue
  • Nottingham Way
  • Old Farm Road
  • Peach Tree Lane
  • Prospect Avenue
  • Quaker Lane
  • Ridge Road
  • Rosslyn Court
  • Rumson Road
  • Rustic Terrace
  • Sherwood Circle
  • Sherwood Road
  • Silvermist Court
  • Silverton Avenue
  • Spring Street
  • Stonehedge Court
  • Tabor Street
  • Whispering Woods Court
  • Windsor Drive
  • Woodbine Avenue
  • Woods End Drive

The balance of the borough is being worked on through the weekend.

During the Borough's most recent phone call with JCP&L, the electric company said that the snow storm slowed its recovery efforts, but that it has since continued working in all areas of the Borough. JCP&L cannot advise as to a full completion date or when remaining streets will be reached at this time. The company asks that anyone with specific issues it wants addressed should continue to contact JCP&L at 1-888-544-4877.

I too like everyone else is frustrated not having power for 10 days so far. I know the Mayor has been in constant contact with JCP&L. I do believe at some point an investigation has to take place to see why it took so long for all residents of Little Silver to receive power.
With that said, I took a ride to Union Beach yesterday and saw the devastation. I have had no power for 10 days in Little Silver but I do have a home. Those in Union Beach, Keansburg, etc were pretty much wiped out. I feel lucky. I hate the cold and no hot water like everyone else. Let an investigation begin but also feel lucky that you are alive and have a home to go to.

Agree w/ Don. We need to be grateful to have a home.
We live in the "flood zone" and many families here are displaced. It is my guess that we are a low priority b/c many residence had to relocate. Hope they realize there are still some of us living here.

Utterly unacceptable on the part of our elected government. Their first duty and obligation is to protect the population of Little Silver. No power in sub freezing weather is a safety issue they have not answered. They have blithely accepted the lies JCPL have given them without further effort. Does anyone truly believe that the "everyone by Wednesday" promise would have been kept if the noreaster hadn't arrived? I have no faith in the timelines stated above (although thank you Amy for gettinG them). After nearly two weeks, there is no political reason for power to still be out in Little Silver except for a failure of government

Failure of government because transformers are blowing and substations can't sustain power? Would an email or post every day saying "maybe tomorrow" change anything? What would everyone want the governing body to do except pass along what JCPL tells them? Everyone knows that there will be investigations by state, county and local representatives/committees.

I have called JCPL everyday , the ring around of answers or basically no answers is crazy! Wednesday was the magic day and now Sunday?? Amazing that i received my online estimated statement to pay my bill on time but no power for 2 weeks! Seriously???? I was told by a rep from JCPL to pick my son up and jump over a down line if he required medical attention. No one gives straight answers and the list of possible streets to be restored is a kick in the face!! Who why and how is this determined? This is disgusting and someone needs to be responsible! Who pays the taxes???

I actually have the alert system and have not received anything that would indicate specifics like this article. I have been without power for 12 days. On election day Bob Neff told me that the " majority" of LS would have their power back on Wed. The nor'easter certainly held that up, but my street didn't even make the list. Guess that means that I go over 2 weeks without power and comparatively my street sustained very little in the way of downed lines and trees.

I also have the alert system and found a lot of the texts to be incomplete. Also with bad cell service locally I did not get a lot of the info till days after the storm. And if you cannot get online you are truly in the dark. A friend told me Monmouth Beach printed a flyer and handed it out to give residents informationa nd let them know what to do. I think something along those lines would have been good for the town, Information was certainly lacking.

As a resident on LS Point Road, I, too, am not thrilled to be without power, but grateful to still have a home that is livable unlike many of my neighbors. We are not the only town that hasn't had power since the hurricane. Many others in Rumson and other surrounding areas are in the same boat. For all of those who are blaming the mayor, all I can say is the police protection on our street and throughout town has been absolutely amazing...I sleep well at night knowing we don't have strangers lurking about....

But now have to travel 45 minutes to get to my job and that is a waste of gas... I was out of work for 5 days and have had to leave early from work a couple of times because of the weather and because I am just too exhausted to work. how am I going to pay for gas when I am not getting paid for these hours?.... somebody has to do something!!!

Diane...I hope it is clear that I'm not "blaming" anyone. Just reporting and expressing a bit of frustration. My husband met a police officer from Alabama who was guarding your street and I know our local official have marshalled resources to see that our town is protected.
As we go forward , there needs to be some sort of dialogue about minimizing the likelihood of future "blackouts". New construction power lines are underground. Substation issues may not be avoidable, but downed lines could be. This might be a time to think about our infrastructure for the 21st century

Good morning everyone. I'm sorry but not surprised to see the frustration and anger out there as expressed in these comments. Please understand that I share your feelings, and that if there were a switch I could throw or a line I could repair myself, I'd do it. What I can do, and have been doing, is everything possible to keep pressure on JCPL to bring up power in Little Silver. I speak regularly with JCPL to get any new information they have, and with our state officials to convey concerns and apply pressure for quicker action. In speaking earlier this morning (Friday) with JCPL, I was advised that we may receive further information by mid-morning. I will continue to post anything further that comes in on the town's website, littlesilver.org, and will share it with Amy, as I always do. We'll also get any new information out in a Two River Alert. I know that Church and other streets came back on last night, and that JCPL crews are in town and continuing to work. We'll keep after them. If your power remains out, or if you see others around you get power while you remain dark, please call JCPL at 1-888-544-4877. Other issues and updates will continue to be posted on littlesilver.org, and alerts will go out as solid information comes in.

Bob, my rant has not been about who's putting pressure on JCP&L, it has been about communication. When I emailed you about sending alerts on Two River, it took days before I saw a post about power from Little Silver. Chief Louis Ferraro of Shrewsbury is sending 20 texts a day. I get maybe 1 or 2 from Little Silver. Littlesilver.org has been woefully behind in its information. If help was needed, then call for volunteers to help get the word out. I'm a retired IT guy, let me know and I'll try to help out.

Mayor Neff, thank you for posting. I'm glad you have read all of our posts. We are grateful are power was restored last night. I finally rested easier, knowing my elderly neighbors , and little children on our street have warm beds. I look for today, for the rest of the town, to have the same hopefully. We are all aware of the devastation around us. We have intelligent resourceful residents, who were looking for solutions. Instead of being at the mercy of JCPL.. Maybe a town meeting would have been advised, like some other towns did. Alot of the elderly residents in town, are not even connected to the internet. NJ has huge challenges ahead. We need to help each other, find solutions , and get through this with our strong leadership. Thank you Mayor Neff.

Assemblywoman Handlin is working very hard with local officials in pressuring JCP&L to get to areas that have been waiting up to 12 days for power. Please do not hesitate to contact Assemblywoman Handlin if she may be of any further assistance.

Many of the streets that were restored yesterday weren't even on the list in littlesilver.org and streets on the list are still dark. Happy that neighbors are getting power, but again if reinforces my believe that any info that does actually get communicated is not even correct. Spoke with a biz in Rumson early this week, and they told me they were supposed to get power last night and guess what? They got power right on schedule. Funny how the nor'easter didnt impact them by one day! Why can we not rely on any info given to us by this town?

Also, don't bother calling jcp&l as Mayor Neff suggests. They cannot tell you anything. The only people that know anything are the dispatchers and customer service is not allowed to call them. Their answer (no joke) is to "have more patience." I think patience is allowed to run thin one full week after the majority of this town got power and we are still in the dark.

We represent the Little Silver Businesses at 34-44 Sycamore Ave., known as Sycamore Commons Condo Association, Little Silver. We have been without power for two weeks and unable to service our clients/patients.

Result we are losing clients/patients and please realize NO POWER ALSO MEANS NO INCOME.
We see JCP & L and other electric trucks drive through Sycamore Ave. Little Silver, however they do not stop and do repairs.
Annoying just now to read the latest posting of streets to be worked on to restore power - Sycamore Ave. Little Silver is not listed!
We need answers. We call the electric company and they are always changing the days we should have power. We would appreciate our town leaders to to fight harder for us and how about putting our street 34-44 Sycamore Ave. on the list for repairs ASAP.

They have given bogus dates to everyone in Little Silver. I don't blame our Mayor. I know he has been doing everything he can. The utility truck came and put in the new utility pole on Crest Dr. and then disappeared. That was a few hours ago and nothing has happened since. The wires are still attached to the old pole that is on about a 60 degree angle. So, the latest schedule called for Crest to be restored on the 8th or 9th which I guess won't get met. So, off I go to buy more gas for the generator and I'll pass by the twenty or so utility truck camped in the Fort Monmouth security entrance on Oceanport Ave. sitting there doing nothing.

Please tell your kids to stay away from areas that are still dark...we don't want anyone getting hurt. By the way, willow drive is a major route for kids walking to and from school. Point road and Markham. I understand that school will be open on Monday.

An updated list of streets would be nice.

Mayor Neff - I have family living on Point Rd and that were just told by utility workers they would not be turning on the electric to their home due to the damage to surrounding houses. This news is devastating. How are people supposed to rebuild and move on from this storm without power. Please contact JCP&L, Governor Christie and our state officials to get this resolved. This situation is a complete mess.

LS Resident, you may want to call or go to the Boro Hall. A neighbor told us tonight that our electrian or homeowners needs to go to the Red Bank Boro Hall and basically get some sort of work permit for the electrical/JCP&L Box or meter on the house. JCP&L is concerned with fires starting from damaged panels. Had our neighbor told us we'd have no clue...but he said the lady he spoke to at the LS boro Hall was extremely helpful. Its goin to be awhile before we see power, hope its better for you. (sorry so tired I cannot spell)

A bunch of trucks showed up, a bunch of trucks left, still no power. So much for the promise that we would be restored by this evening. I'd be happier with no news at all than constantly getting my hopes up based on misinformation only to be consistently letdown.

Sarah-That is what happened to us before we got power back. The trucks came to assess the problem ahead of time. Not sure what happened between the time they came to assess and the actual restoration since it happened overnight while I was staying with friends who had power. But hopefully this is a good sign!

I am told that the out of town utility companies are appalled at the issues that exist here, not the least is JCP&L which has no clue how to handle emergencies, not to mention the age of our utility poles. Also, it is really important that residents who have older trees take care of them (e.g. pruning, removal, fertilization) so that these trees do not fall on power lines during future storms.

Same comment was made to me by a line supervsior from Alabama Power. Our utility poles are in very poor shape according to him.

Kathy - I hope you're right! Trying to remain optimistic after almost two weeks of raised expectations.

neff, your incompetence is truly remarkable. Mr. neff is now advising our lovely local police department to stop contractors trying to demo flood damage homes, I am truly amazed on how you even got elected into office. This disasters sheds light on how corrupted our local officials truly are. And another thing, the Little silver police department and New Jersey state troopers have been some of the nastiest human-beings i have every encountered in my life, they were highly irritable, and don't want to even answer the most simplest of questions, these public servants should be ashamed of how they carried them selves during this state of emergency. On the other hand I wanted to thank the Mississippi state troopers for being the real upholders of the public, they where kind, patient, and even made me crack a smile in these trying times. The local populace really need to take a step back and take the appropriate actions against our local police department, and our local community governance. Expect some questions at the next town hall meeting, I would love to hear all your excuses.

For those of you who would like to hear what happened with JCP&L and its poor, substandard communication to its customers and internally today, please go to http://littlesilver.patch.com/articles/your-neighborhood-gallery-4c66706b#photo-12176288
