Red Bank Regional (6-5-1, 4-1-1 Shore "D") put up a good fight but was unable to stop the division-leading St. Rose Frozen Roses (14-2-0, 7-2-0 Shore "D") who defeated them 4-2 when the two teams clashed on the ice at Jersey Shore Arena in Wall Friday evening.
The Bucs only had nine players in the game due to illness and injuries. F Drue Amato showed symptoms of mono and F Josh Suboyo, F Tim Vilardi and D Sam Maraschio were held out of the lineup with concussions, causing Red Bank to send out just two forward lines and three defenders.
Pat McKerry scored for St. Rose near the end of the first, and Christian Phipps made it 2-0 less than a minute into the second. Red Bank answered with goals from Joe Franco (12) and Jack Lynch (2) to tie the game 2-2, but the Bucs ran out of gas in the third, as Billy Regan fired one past Bucs netminder Charlie Fox, and McKerry scored into an empty net.
Red Bank also played Saturday, defeating Freehold Boro (4-6-0, 3-3-0 Shore "C") by a score of 4-2.
The Bucs will have a rematch with St. Rose at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Red Bank Armory.
