Traffic Signals Switched on Along Branch Avenue

The temporary lights went from flashing to fully operational Monday morning.

My teenage daughter and I drove to pick up her friend in Shrewsbury on Monday, a little before noon, and as we easily made our left turn onto Branch Avenue off of Rumson Road, she commented, "Wow, that's the quickest we've ever been through there."

We made it through the usually precarious intersection with ease with an assist from the temporary traffic light that was switched on earlier in the morning.

The light at White Road and Branch in Little Silver was also fully operational on Monday.

Who knows what traffic will look like during busier times of day, as cars tend to pile up along Rumson and White roads waiting to turn onto Branch, and even along Branch Avenue itself. When a portion of Seven Bridges Road shuts down beginning next week, according to the county, even more cars are expected to be traveling through those intersections.

I looked forward to this light. However, as I waited to turn left from Branch to White, many cars went by in the opposite direction with no break. I scooted in on the yellow and two cars behind me must have seen red. There should be a left turn signal for that turn. Returning home, I saw there was a left turn arrow from White to Branch, entirely unnecessary. Did someone get mixed up? Just turn the light!

Katharine: I'm with you. It's still a little unclear who gets arrows and who can go right on red. Someone was beeping at me as I was stopped on Branch waiting to turn onto Rumson, but I was afraid oncoming traffic would get a green left turn arrow. Obviously, it's going to take a little while for us all to get the hang of it.

The traffic last evening heading south on Branch Avenue was backed up with about 20 cars idling ! All this pollution going into the environment. I just do not see how this is going to help anything long term and hope that the promise of a temporary lights will remain true. I am happy that the work is at least finished and i do not have 10 large vehicles in front of my house on Wiinfield Drive. My view now includes the red light shining in my front window and a huge silver control box facing my house.

Heading south on Branch Avenue during normal hours was horrible also....making left on to Rumson Road took lots of time....I got through and maybe two
others and traffic was backed up behind me.....Cars just kept coming from White Road..hardly a break to turn left on to Rumson Road...Guess one has to try turning left on Silverton or Woodbine and right on Prospect....and avoid the mess at the light new Rumson Road light...

However, I undestand we do need light control at the intersections of Rumson Road and White Road......we do have to give it time.
