Three Shore Regional Field Hockey Players Named To US Junior National Squads
Oceanport residents Aileen Johnson, Shannon Johnson and Hannah Barreca named to squad
Three Shore Regional High School field hockey players have been named to the U.S. Junior National Field Hockey squads.
Graduating seniors Hannah Barreca and Aileen Johnson and incoming senior Shannon Johnson, all of Oceanport, were named to the team on Wednesday evening according to the United States Olympic Committee website.
Aileen Johnson and Barreca were named to the U21 Junior Squad and Shannon Johnson, Aileen's younger sister, was named to the U19 Junior Squad.
The U19 squad is comprised of 24 players who will report to a training camp in January 2013 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
"Following the training camp, select athletes will be announced to a travel squad that will tour internationally in the spring of 2013," the US Olympic Committee website states.
The U21 squad has 30 players and several of them will report to a training camp in August at the University of Maryland in preparation for the Junior Pan American Championship in Guadalajara, Mexico, from Sept. 8-24.
Barreca and Aileen Johnson are headed to Duke University this fall while Shannon Johnson recently committed to the University of North Carolina.
The three girls helped lead Shore to the NJSIAA Group 1 state title in 2011. It was the 12th time the school has won the state championship.
