Angela, we live at 16th and the Bay. We stayed for the storm. Drove around yesterday, what a mess. 20th & Central seems fine. But I can't tell who got water. It came up 9 feet on the bay. We lost 2 cars and our 1st floor rental. If you want me to drive by and send you a picture, let me know. ??

What a sad time for OCNJ. My thoughts are with everyone and i am still hoping that My family's homes are ok. It would be great if we could start a page about post recovery cleanup with links and posts about numbers to call, safety, how to work with flood insurance, and where to start with possible damgage. We went through the devastation of Irene here in Waterbury VT last year and I learned a a lot. FEMA and the Red Cross both offer info on what to do first. Although it is extremely emotional to see your home and belongings flooded it can be important to have the information to know where to start. As an example, We learned quickly that drywall and plaster needed to ripped out 12 inches above the flood level within 72 hours to prevent mold problems. I also encourage anyone who is not in OC but will be headed there to work on their homes or volunteer to purchase things before you get there like dust masks, tarps, work gloves, bleach, pry bars, buckets, shop VAcs, bottled water etc (I am sure FEMA has a list). Here in Waterbury, we had free child care for an entire week for anyone so that you could attend to your own property or volunteer to help others. We also had food and water wagons that traveled the streets as the cleanup began so that volunteers and property owners could keep working. For those who might not be able to do the heavy clean up those are both great ways to help. Best wishes to everyone in OCNJ

Thanks for your info Melinda. My husband & I are in the process of moving, stored all of our belongings at his business on 7th and west and we lost everything, even though we prepared for the rising water. We are at a loss as to what to do next. We have no flood insurance and we are wondering what's the next step. We will follow through with your info, thanks again. Once again Cablevision has let down their customers for failing to have backup power to allow residents at least the ability to have TV for news update. Just like last year with Irene.

And just like last year there will be no refunds for loss of service.

An FYI, the NJ BPU has no control over cable.

So why do towns keep awarding exclusive 10 year contracts to only one company?

Stayed through the storm at 55th and Bay. There was a lot of flooding in garages etc. Depending on the height of your first floor from ground level is going to determine flood damage. Debris everywhere as expected but it looks like from what I can see this area faired well. We never lost power or satellite dish.

Just returned from a drive through Matawan, from the Marlboro border, past the train station and down Rt. 35 through Hazlet. Power is out everywhere, no traffic signals. In Matawan, police have set up free-standing stop signs at key intersections but driving will get progressively more risky as more people get out. The best advice is to stay at home for now.

The pictures of Harbor Inn Rd. just recently posted on this site should give you an idea of water depth on Cedar Run Rd. Judging from the mailboxes 2.5 to 3 ft. Depth on Cedar Run across the channel should be the same. If you have a high enough crawl space under the house you might be OK . If you're on a slab, you have a problem. http://berkeley-nj.patch.com/articles/send-us-your-photos-hurricane-sandy-2c1d3a46#photo-11974239

Beach Haven West at 2PM: I walked down Marsha from Route 72 to the 900 block of Jennifer Lane. No electric power. My house had about 6 inches of water in the first floor. Garage at grade level had about 18 inches. Otherwise structure was intact. Lots of roofing shingles on the road. The houses in the immediate area were intact and seemed to have similar wind and water damage. Route 72 was barricaded east of Marsha - no access to LBI.

Stafford Police Dept: I know your VERY busy (I have been in law enforcement for 25 years in Florida thru 5 hurricanes), but could you plz tell us which areas are flooded (from this ave to that st), so we can get an idea who's family & house is ok -or not. For the residents, could you plz list places open to buy gas/ice/milk/medicine/flashlights. Thank you & many in Florida are praying for you guys...we know what you are going thru!

I was down South Drive this afternoon. Max flooding looked to be somewhere between 4 -5 feet over the bulkheads. Most if not all if the docks on the river side looked to be gone. Lagoon side docks were ok and only one boat broke loose there. Newer homes built higher may have avoided first floor flooding. Older homes, including my parents, probably had up to a foot and half of water inside. Closer to the bay was worse. Water was full of fuel and debris. Be safe.

Colleen, I tried to get down to check east en of Princeton and north south dr for someone today but couldn't get there due to impassable water where Princeton meets beaverdam bridge. I talked to a homeowner east end of Princeton that said he had water in the basement. Water Lvl at that point 4pm was below bulkhead. Many docks were destroyed and underwater but I saw no structural damage from I could see from the banks of the metedeconk. Hope that helps a little

Kings Landing should be fine. They are higher elevated as we are and should only be suffering from power loss.

Incidentally, have you been given any indication of how long you could be without power / phone land lines? And do you know if the postal service is still able to deliver?

Hows Rt 33 in Freehold - Farmingdale area doing. Parents live there & no contact yet! I grew up there but now live in Houston & have been in a few of those devastating hurricanes. Hang in there & don't complain. Their are people right now that have lost everything. If you have a roof over your head you have everything that is needed right now. God bless and praying for everyone in Jersey.

Those with Verizon Fios that have lost power but have a generator, can restore access to the internet by providing power to both the router and the coax interface device that connects to the outside Verizon box and to the backup battery. Verizon installers typically installed the coax interface device, and the backup battery, on the joists inside the house closest to the Verizon box. Both of these devices draw very little power, but are necessary if you want to restore access to the outside world and obtain updated information on the progress of the effort to restore electricity to our area. Use the usual precaution when connecting these devices- adequate working light - and be sure to make the final connection in a dry locatoin.
