State Legislators Decry Failure of Federal Aid Package

Legislators from Monmouth County respond to the House of Representative's failure to pass Sandy bill

Senate and Assembly Republican legislators representing Monmouth County municipalities devastated by Superstorm Sandy issued the statement below in response to the House of Representative’ failure to take action on a $60.4B Sandy aid package.

They include Senators Joseph Kyrillos, Jennifer Beck, Sam Thompson and Robert Singer; Assemblywomen Mary Pat Angelini, Caroline Casagrande and Amy Handlin, and Assemblymen Declan O’Scanlon, David Rible, Sean Kean, Ron Dancer and Rob Clifton. Here is the statement as released in its entirety:

“We are appalled at the House of Representatives’ decision to not take action on the Sandy aid package that is so vital to our recovery efforts. Residents and businesses at the Jersey Shore are in dire need of assistance as they try to recover from this historic and unprecedented storm which has adversely affected so many lives.

“Kicking this can down the road is absolutely unacceptable and shows utter contempt and a disturbing lack of compassion for the thousands of our residents and businesses who, in many cases, have lost everything and continue to endure unspeakable hardship.

“The House’s failure to act at all is as unconscionable as was their earlier efforts to significantly reduce the amount of federal emergency aid. Their lack of action is shameful and inexcusable.”

Gov. Chris Christie held a news conference Wednesday afternoon to express his outrage at the “continued inaction and indifference by the House of Representatives” to act on the desperately needed aid package.

The northeast is waiting over 2 months now since Hurricane Sandy for assistance.
Yet, those same Republican leaders in Congress in under 2 weeks gave George Bush the full $87 billion that Bush asked for to rebuild Iraq. It sure looks like the Republican leadership in Congress cares far more about their Muslim buddies in Iraq, than those Republican traitors care about their fellow Americans living in the Northeast. It is our own fault___we never should have allowed those other territories to join the United States of America and the original 13 colonies.

After Hurricane Katrina those same Republican leaders in Congress approved $130 billion of FEMA assistance in less than 1 week after the storm made landfall. Far less people on the Gulf Coast were effected and far less housing units were lost in Katrina when compared to the much wider spread out area of damages and far more housing units lost now caused by Sandy. NYS alone had 305,000 housing units either totally lost or heavily damaged and unlivable now due to Sandy.

The people that still live on the coast after katrina and the other storms should have enough resources and insurance to take care of themselves. It is not the fed govs problem. Stop looking for freebies you sound like a bunch of welfare queens.

Mother Earth has spoken. It's your own fault that Global Warming has hit you so hard. New Jersey has the worst chemical plants in the nation. Just drive up the turnpike. Sandy is just the beginning, just ask our President, Global warming is the issue of our time. Listen to him he knows best.
