Say Good-Bye to Summer this Weekend at Oceanport Festival

The annual Summer's End Festival at Blackberry Bay Park will feature fireworks and firetruck rides and the opportunity to knock a councilman, or maybe a BOE member, into a dunk tank.

It's a bittersweet time in Oceanport with the Summer's End Festival scheduled for this weekend, which squeezes the last bit of fun out of summer activities while signaling the end of carefree days and late nights.

The annual event, sponsored by the borough in conjunction with the Oceanport Parks and Recreation Committee, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Blackberry Bay Park with Sunday earmarked as the rain date.

While there are fireworks slated to go off around sunset, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy until then, including hot air balloon tether rides, a live band and fire truck rides sponsored by Oceanport Hook & Ladder.

The Oceanport First Aid Squad will hand out first aid kits and there will be a volleyball, horse shoe and corn hole tournament. Anyone interested in participating in either of the tournaments can call Lisa Aromando 732-850-5368 for more information.

The Maple Place Class of 2013 will host a dunk tank featuring the opportunity to douse some of the more familiar faces around Oceanport in the drink, including Councilman Joseph Irace and Oceanport Board of Education President Colin Soyer.

Hello Everyone,

Unfortunately, it appears that the weather pattern for this evening has not
changed as we had hoped. As a result of the impending lightning storms for
tonight, the Summer's End Festival for this evening has been postponed and
will now be held TOMORROW, Sunday, September, 9, 2012.

We’ll kick off with the horse shoe and corn hole tournament from 3:00-5:00
pm and then the festival will run from 5:00-9:00 pm.
Please note that neither the rock wall, volleyball tournament, nor the hot
air balloon event will take place tomorrow and our rain date band is “Garden
State Radio”.

We have some new and fun attractions this year, so please join us tomorrow
for a great day!
The weather for tomorrow looks spectacular! We’ll see you all then!

Sincerely and enthusiastically,

Mike Minervini
Chairman, Oceanport Parks and Recreation Committee
