Onlookers in beach chairs and local high school football jerseys hooted, hollered and waved their support as three runners trotted their flags over the Shrewsbury River Bridge into Rumson around 3 p.m. Sunday, when the New Jersey Run for the Fallen made its way into the Two River area.

Teams of active and reserve military (in running gear) made the 152 mile journey from Cape May to Holmdel to honor New Jersey service members killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Every mile of the trek the runners stopped to present a flag and personalized biographical card to family and friends of a fallen soldier.

The run made 10 stops in the area, following Rumson Road into Little Silver, where it stopped in front of Edie's and Little Silver Cleaners, then turned toward Shrewsbury, where it stopped in front of the firehouse on 35, and into Red Bank, where it stopped in front of Colorest. The route continued down 520, where it stopped in front of the National Guard building and Lincroft Inn in Middletown before making the final stretch into Holmdel.
