Rook Coffee Bid Accepted for Little Silver Train Station
Both sides are still negotiating details before the lease is signed.
Good news coffe lovers: the Little Silver Borough Council accepted a bid from Rook Coffee Roasters on Monday night to run the train station's concession stand.
But Holly Migliaccio, co-owner of the popular local beanery, stressed to Patch on Thursday that the lease hasn't been signed and details still need to be negotiated for the three-year deal that they won with their $10,800 bid.
What she did share was that the train station outpost will be set up much the same way as the Rook's Long Branch and Oakhurst shops, with coffee sold to-go and no seating. There will also be the same selection of "good, high quality" food, said Migliaccio, like bagels from Red Bank's Bagel Oven and baked treats from Balthazar Bakery.
Rook will have the option of buying up to 12 parking spaces at the train station that will be designated as 15-minute spots, according to Little Silver Borough Attorney John O. Bennett III at the April 2 council meeting.
Migliaccio, who lives in Oceanport, said she used to take the train out of Little Silver during her "commuting days" and had always wondered about the concession stand. When she and her partner Shawn Kingsley -- another Oceanport resident -- heard it was up for rent, Migliaccio knew from her customers that there woulb be a demand for their brew in this area.
She said she has lots of customers that drive to the other two shops from the Two River area and that they are always asking her, "When are you going to open closer to us?"

I'd walk 20 miles to get bagels from Red Bank's Bagel Oven. My goodness they are awesome. I think I'll pick up (another) dozen this weekend.

Congratulations! Tasty java and a stronger community. For every $100 spent, local business put $68 back into the local economy vs. $43 with chains/non-local business.
