POLL: Should Oceanport Hire a New Principal for Maple Place?

The district's board of education will vote Thursday night on whether to move ahead and replace the middle school's principal who is leaving in July.

After hearing about an hour of impassioned feedback from parents and teachers at a meeting earlier this month, the Oceanport Board of Education will decide on Thursday whether to hire a new principal for Maple Place School.

While there are a few options on the table for making the position a shared service, most who spoke at the June 14 meeting urged the board to replace the departing Cory Radish with another principal.

One option presented was to designate two teachers as building leaders at Wolf Hill and task Wolf Hill Principal Melanie Lipinski to oversee them while taking over as Maple Place principal.

Another option is to have Superintendent Andrew Orefice take on the additional role of Maple Place principal, a similar job to what he said he held for seven months earlier in his career and found frustrating because "you can't get to everything."

The Oceanport Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. on June 21 in the Maple Place Library.
