Pedestrian Struck Near LS Train Station Saturday

The 66-year-old was crossing Branch Avenue when he was struck Saturday afternoon.

 

A man crossing the street near the Little Silver Train Station on Saturday afternoon was struck by a station wagon and taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment.

Kenneth Sorensen, 66, of Sioux Falls, SD, was struck by a Volvo Station wagon driven by Margarete Rice, 86,  of Ocean Township at 3:22 p.m., according to Little Silver Police Det. Greg Olivia. 

Sorensen was crossing Branch Avenue at the Sycamore Avenue intersection from the train station when he was struck by Rice, who was turning left from Sycamore Avenue onto Branch Avenue.

The victim was treated at the scene by Little Silver EMS and MONOC Paramedics and transported to Jersey Shore Trauma Center and his injuries have not been released.  

The accident is being investigated by the Little Silver Police Department Traffic Safety Unit as well as the Monmouth County SCART team, according to police.

Sorry to hear about the pedestrian getting injured, but do take a look at how you write your headlines. Someone just reading the heads might be led to believe the person was struck by a train.

I am Ken Sorensen brother in law, just wanted to let everyone know that Ken is in Intensive Care in the Hospital. Doing as good as he can. Many problems and the Doctors are still looking at all of his problems and working them one by one. thanks for all the kind thoughts and concerns. Mike, St Louis, MO
