Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Presidential Debate: Readers React to Obama, Romney

New Jersey Patch sites wrangled political opinions from our readers as we live blogged the first debate.

The first 2012 Presidential Debate may have started light, with President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger Mitt Romney sharing a firm handshake and a few jokes. However, the candidates wasted no time focusing on the economic challenges facing Americans, with each contrasting his own vision for the country with his opponent's.

During our live coverage, Patch asked residents around the country to join in the debate through emailing us questions, joining our live blog and tweeting their thoughts with #PatchPolitics.

Residents around New Jersey joined the lively discussion, as the president and presidential hopeful had at each other in a face-to-face battle of words.

"[Romney] should ask what Obama has done for us in the last 4 years. (sound of crickets)," said Patch reader 'John B'.

Just as the Obama and Romney disagree, our readers were not seeing eye-to- eye on our live blog.

"Romney is gonna set up trade with Latin America because he has sent so many jobs over there with the busineses he owns but yet he doesn't support the immigration laws that Obama has tried to pass...hmmmm??," one reader said.

Many on Twitter pointed to the tone of the debate. While Obama technically held the floor longer, readers pointed out the strength in Romney's voice and the fact that the candidate didn't seem to pull any punches.

"Romney comes across strong and in control," Patch reader 'John B' said in our live blog. "Obama is pandering to the young vote," he later added.

While both candidates frequently ran over their allotted time for question and answer segments, giving moderator Jim Lehrer a difficult job, some readers said Romney's strong voice in the debate was not enough.

"Romney refuses to give details on any plan on any subject," Patch reader 'Tonto' said.

But with the groans and moans from both sides of the aisles heard in our live blog as opponents laid out plans, one Patch reader named Kelly ended our live blogging by saying what many may have been thinking:

"Thank goodness that's over."

Pres. Obama had his "talking points" ready, but couldn't back them up without knowledge. He sounded like he memorized from past speeches. Gov. Romney talks from his past experiences in the business field, and could back up his answers. I also liked when he EXPLAINED TO OBAMA that he will WORK IN A BIPARTISAN WAY, NOT IT'S MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY MANNER"! Result: Pres. Obama was speechless! Loved it!

Nancy, there was a show on last night focusing on the Mickey Drexler, from that great 'American' company J Crew. He kept focusing on how they source all of their fabric from Europe and then send it all to China where all of the clothing is manufactured. So much for American jobs....that is the way of business these days. He commented that their $138 shirts would cost at least 2-3 times more if they were made outside of China. It has become the standard to send out manufacturing, and therefore jobs. Obama did exactly the same when his/govt funding to the auto industry ended up overseas where much of the manufacturing is actually done.

Romney's Revenue Neutral tax cut Means a $900 billion dollar reduction to domestic federal programs. Programs like VA BENEFITS, MEDICARE, NURSING HOME PAYMENTS, EDUCATION AID, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, ETC.
Make both Romney & Ryan spell out, detail what their term revenue neutral means as it applies to their 5 Trillion dollar tax cut which will provide a $250,000 tax cut for each Millionaire! And a prediction-----They won't give you the details, they will not directly or indirectly answer that question. Listen, Listen, Listen to them.

Don't try to say it's not true, a dear friend's mom, is having the surgery soon because her dr said it won't be covered as of the first of the year. None of obama's followers will accept anything bad about him, as truth. He won't either, he has news stories yanked if they make him look bad, like his daughter's trip to Mexico. We had to pay for so many secret service to go with her. Let me tell you, I can't afford a vacation. I can't even afford to go to Michigan to see my granddaughter. Elective surgery doesn't mean it's not covered. What it means is that your doctor will need to justify (precertify) the need for the surgery. This helps the patient too who won't undergo unneeded surgery. I have a sleep apnea monitor. It had to be justified by a sleep study and continued use is precertified annually with a doctor visit to my pulmonoligist and various breathing tests. I find nothing wrong with that. Be garteful that Medicare doesn't hand over money for just anything your doctor wants. Need is the requirement.

They gave you something for free that never should have been, and now you cry like hell when someone threatens to start charging you for it. Get off the grub wagon. No more "free" rides. JoAnne, if you read some background on Romney, you will actually find a very sincere, smart, decent, family-oriented human being. Have you ever observed how devoted he is to his wife, children, and grandchildren and how the kids flock to him? He is really a genuine person and the person he seems to be in public. He is not plastic. And most importantly, he is utterly qualified compared to the incumbent who has absolutely no qualification to be where he is. His was a popularity appointment from four years ago and fortunately most people now realize he is an empty suit. Let's hope it's not too late to reverse the severe damage they've done to our economy and our country.

The most outstanding Romney conceit was the way he kept saying that, instead of solving federal problems, he would dump them on the states to solve. Sure, that would save money in the federal budget, but just where are the states going to get the money and resources to solve these problems? And what is their stimulus to do it in a timely manner. And with 50 stares making up 50 solutions, what kind of chaos are you creating in this nation? The man is a CEO, a job where only profit generation counts, no matter who suffers because of it. I believe Obama is incompetent, but Romney is dangerous.

States are exactly the entity that should solve their own problems. Feds can't make logical decisions that work for people in the southeast as well as people in the mid-west. Cultures are different and require different solutions. Hence states rights as laid out plainly in the constitution. Check your histroy. The federal gov't has grown well beyond anything ever intended. If you for one minute believe the federal gov't has any indiviual or groups interest before it's own you are sorely mistaken. We are already paying the price for this and will continue to as long as the federal gov't is in charge. Time to get back to states rights as it should be. At least that way people could vote with their feet.

It's a lot easier to hold your state accountable than the federal government. If you like huge spending and all the freebies and the high taxes that go with it, you live and vote in places like California. You want some control then you vote for those people who will control spending, which usually means Republicans.

Romney is dangerous is an understatement. I wonder how many people were put out of work when he was with Baine Capital, that was the tip of the iceberg after that. He HELPED put us in position we are in now. Obama may not be the best to some, but he did use most of the ideas that the Republicans wanted and they still shot him down. The Republicans DON'T want him, for what reason is there own. He didn't get much done because Congress and the Senate was always on vacation. And as far as the deficit George Bush was the problem, we had money in the bank before he got his hands on it. All the wars and never paid for, but we could have roads to nowhere and all the pet projects that Congress and the Senate wanted.....like our own Local Government, like passing bond issues for items that should gave been in the budget because of the Cap. So now we put off paying for our borrowing to the next generation, BUT they got there money......

The indirect effects of Obamacare have yet to be determined, since the law has yet to be implemented. But as the law is written now, Obamacare doesn't cut seniors' benefits as part of its plan to curb health care costs, according to USA Today.

So "according to USA Today", we think that perhaps Romney may possibly be wrong

I was an Obama supporter in 2008, but I have changed my mind. Here is why:
1) Obama has spent more $ than the previous 44 president’s combined
2) He promised ‘Transparency’ in his administration – EPIC FAIL (Fast & Furious anyone?)
3) Promised not to raise taxes – EPIC FAIL (Obama care is legal based on it being a TAX per the Supreme Court!)
4) Promised to reach across the aisle – EPIC FAIL (Rushed through Obama care without Republican Support)
5) Promised to cut needless spending/pork – EPIC FAIL (Solyndra et al)
6) Promised to reduce unemployment to below 5% – DO I EVEN NEED TO SAY IT?
7) Promised to create jobs – EPIC FAIL AGAIN (Canadian Pipeline anyone?) (Closing of offshore drilling anyone?)
8) Claimed he was successful in bringing down Bin Laden-Wasn’t it Bush who started that momentum?
9) Blames all the problems on previous administration-Yet he forgets that it was a DEMOCRATIC Senate and House during Bush’s administration. Isn’t it the House and Senate that approves spending?...Hmmmm
10) Promised to hold large banks accountable-but gave them a bailout
11) Bows to the Chinese
12) Allows attacks our consulates…
13) Allows his agencies to spend money on lavish luxury (GSA Anyone?)…
14) Bails/protects his friends when they commit crimes (Eric Holder anyone?)

Anyway I could go on and on and on….WAKE UP…

The union, that actually caused the fiscal problem at GM, is now in charge with the US Government (Socialism) hold stock and risk. They are coming due for another bailout soon because THEY ARE LOSING MONEY!
Under Obama 5 million jobs lost. Their numbers show 4 million plus added. That equates to a NEGATIVE number. Also, the jobs added to not equate to the jobs lost. Higher paying jobs gone, "you want fries with that" to replace them.
The don't count the people that have exhausted their unemployment benefits or are no longer looking. That is called FUZZY MATH.

The whole attack on big oil subsidies is another classic Radical move. We all hate expensive gas and the oil companies make profits therefore they are evil. ATTACK them! They are stealing. Obama doesn't want to discuss that Apple makes higher profits and margins than than Exxon and makes their products in China because Apple products are cool and hip. It's not the amount as Romney pointed out, it's the emotional message "BIG OIL IS SCREWING YOU AT THE PUMP AND AT THE TREASURY. ITS UNFAIR"

Isn't this the same message he hammers the EVIL health insurance companies on? He has to attack them its part of the create hate narrative to win support for his redistribution policies.

Should the rich pay more for gas or a burger at Wendys? Do the rich get Free Obama phones?

On the other hand, Medicare spends $500B more a year than it takes in and we borrow the money from CHina to pay for it.

Yep $90 B annually vs $2.5B. I wonder if any of the $90B in green subsidies went to anyone RICH like AL GORE?

Meanwhile the rich will save a lot more money by Romney's reduced tax rates on their AGI

George, It's not about privatization of government, it's about nationalization of our economy and our private lives. That is why Obama must go before he nationalizes everything. He started out with the auto industry, moved on to health care and has issued executive order after executive order imposing his will on businesses large and small. If that's what you want, continue supporting Obama. If you believe in individual freedom and liberty, there is no choice but Romney.

@george - we are not giving anything. This is the tax code. If the Dems want it changed, vote on it. $2.5 billion there versus $90 billion a year for green energy. Your comments are out of the playbook. How much tax is paid on the average gallon of gas and into all of the coffers? Its mostly tax. The libs had enough votes to pass Obamacare on party lines why not fix the tax code?

We have a $1.3 trillon debt and your big answer is attack the $2.5 B. That's like attacking the home mortgage deduction for middle americans which is far more than $2.5 B. How many subsidies did Solyndra get? The Obama Stimulus plan spent billions on one time payments ie subsidies.

We can save billions by eliminating the federal pensions and state pensions. They don't help the middle class but they add to the deficits. Where do you stand on these taxpayer funded subsidies?

Medicare adds $500B a year to the deficit. Obama admitted this.

Stick with the playbook. Rome is burning.

Big oil and our foolish childless dependence on it is destroying our world's enviroment from air to water from sea to polluted sea. Can't you see that? Global warming isn't a money making myth. Why you all want to stay dependent on a few that control the global oil supply when Brazil among many others is liberating themselves from it is beyond me and I find it scary as hell that you all do. Yeah, Obama sees it and wants us to too. So put on your totoos and dance to a better truer tune. Oil and those the killed their way into monopolizing oops it, Saudi kings to Texas kings and all in between have been running this world but we can't see that. Money is power and we've given them both away. Wall street/banks has a big hand in cohoots too. The entitlements and pensions and other lavish taxpayer funded handouts ARE THE PROBLEM. Like them or hate them, big oil and the refineries and the gas stations all provide jobs and services and pay other taxes to help their states and local economies. What is your solution except complaining? Is the country with $1.3 T of budget deficits on top of $16 T of debt BROKE or not? How long can we borrow money from China? We are borrowing money to repay borrowed money.

Medicare is deficit funded by $500 B a year. Over 10 more years, that's another $5 T in new debt. We cannot give away services that we cannot pay for.

Air the debate on enough of a delay so the facts can be presented along with what each of the candidates claim. Put a graphic on the bottom of the screen which shows the facts along with "He's telling the truth," He's close," He's embellishing or taking the facts out of context" or "He's lying."

To all of you, especially Letsgetreal...

I wasn't making this into a pro-Romney/anti-Obama argument. But, no doubt, I can count on people to do just that.

All I said was that, without the facts immediately at hand, the debate is all about image and how one candidate came across versus the other. People on both sides of whatever the debate happens to be, not just the debate we witnessed last night, will slant the argument and skew so-called "facts and figures" to make their argument look good and the other side's not. Liars figure and figures lie and that's that.

And, now, for the three of you who responded to me, you all make me sick.

This country is so damned polarized already, starting with Mitch McConnell who said, nearly four years ago--hell with a partisan Florida Secretary of State and partisan Supreme Court twelve years ago--that his goal was to make Obama a one-term President. In other words, he had no intention of working with the President for the common good. And, people on both sides, regular citizens, carried the torch of "Us vs. Them." To many, there's nothing that Obama can do right and nothing that Romney can do wrong. And vice versa, of course.

So, to all of you who replied to me, shove it. You have your agenda and nothing will get in the way. Damn ideologues. You make me sick. So nice, I said it twice.

Joey Bags,

Camden, Trenton and Newark were shitholes under Republicans as well as Democrats. And we've had Republican governors for eleven of the past fifteen years.

It's not the government; it's the people who live in those places. There are a lot of poor, one-parent families with the mindset that the government owes them a handout. For any number of reasons, they don't pride themselves on education and, in areas with "projects" you have many living in a small area--many who think they have no future, and it becomes a breeding ground for drugs and gangs.

But we both knew that already.

Teach a man to fish and he eats for the rest of his life? True. Teach a man to fish who thinks he has no future and he'll keep sitting there waiting for someone to hand him a fish. You'd have a better chance teaching a bear to crap in a toilet than teaching some of those folks to fish.

Yes Obama did not take the opportuntiy to challenge Romney on his statements. And when Romeny talked about his accountant, Obama should have told him that his accountant sure works well for him, making sure that he pays so much less than hard working Americans who do not have the money to send lobbyists to congress to lobby for lower tax rates. I could go on and on about last night's debate but the fact of the matter is that Romney broke out a can of whoop ass on Obama. For most Americans who watched and who possess a moderate knowledge of politics in this country may be casting their vote for the new guy. The polls will show evidence of that.

Did not watch the debate last night but judging by the lib/dem composters here, it must have been ugly for their hero. I heard ACORN has registered Adolph Hitler in all 50 states!

@Opinionated - race baiting is a technique taught to Community Organizers to help them assume power. Same as gender baiting, class warfare baiting. It's all part of the plan to get one group to rally around it "Hell yeah" while the other group tried to factually defend "what, no we don't" The facts no longer matter when these techniques are invoked and the media helps drive them. Aren't we all Americans? Where is class mentioned in the Constitution? Successful radicals need to put groups against one another.

yet here we are today facing trillion dollar budget deficits, no jobs, 16 trilion national debt and the left doesn't even admit these are problems. What are their solutions? In NJ, What are the Democrats who run both houses doing to help NJ? Anything? They don't care. they know they have to promise to spend and spend and give and give for power and that is their only goal. If they cared about people, they would have tried to fix say Camden or Newark a long time ago.

Schizophrenia
Our modern lives have made us all,
Para”noids”,
Rushing around until we fall,
As skits so frantic,
We’ve become manick,
Depressedants,
With delusions of grandeur,
And suicidal tendencies,
So next time your lives do race,
Your time here embrace,
For in the blink of his eye,
We all must die.

George Clark

Free
That thought sounds familiar,
It’s almost like freedom for all,
for that too has become just a free for all,
Free for all to pay together the fee,
Of a lifestyle killing both you and me,
For if we’re out for just ourselves,
To put new trophies upon our personal shelves,
Then when this ship we’re on is sinking,
To whom the blame be placed you thinking?,
Was it you or was it us,
That made this tiny world go bust,
From economies to ecologies,
We’ve let down the world’s societies,
So next time you here thinks it’s free for all,
look again at the writings within your cave's wall.

This is not my work, but is too true not to share. Written by a former nun who is now a practicing lawyer: "Let me get this straight. We are going to be gifted with a health care plan that we are forced to purchase, and fined if we don't, which reportedly covers 10 million more people without adding A SINGLE new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman doesn't understand it, passed by the congress who didn't read it, but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a president who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we will be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has bankrupted social security and medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese and financed by a country that is broke. So what could possible go wrong?" Ya gotta love it!!

WOW, some of you are absolutely ridiculous (specifically, Barney and Eleanor). So saying that both candidates are bad makes one a "liberal" or a "die hard Democrat"? NO. It makes YOU a sheep for blindly supporting a duopoly, and it also shows how little you understand the political spectrum. Explain to me how voting libertarian puts me on the left... It doesn't. Explain how GARY JOHNSON is polling around 6%... must be all those darn liberal Democrats. Obama lost; no question. Yet, Ron Paul OWNED Romney in the RIGGED caucuses. If you're gonna tell me I'm a Democrat bc I want a third party candidate to address things like domestic manufacturing, the inept Federal Reserve, etc, I wouldn't even waste my time debating politics with you. I'm with ya Jay, supporting a guy like Gary Johnson or Ron Paul does not make you a liberal. In an ideal America, someone like that would be our President. I support most of their views and I really wish one of them could win this election. On one hand, I want to vote for Johnson in November because I believe that if enough people start voting Libertarian they will start to be even more widely recognized and it could make a real impact on future elections. On the other hand, my number one priority right now is saving America from the destruction that another term of Obama would surely cause. Tough decision. In the short-term though, it is vital to this nation that we end this presidency

As a lifelong Democrat, my father will be spinning his grave but, I made the mistake once, I'll not make it twice. As a small business owner, after 30 years I'll be out of business if Obama wins again. He's destroying the economy & making it impossible for small businesses to stay open. My profits have dropped, my regulations have raised, my expenses have gone way up & my (self employed) health care has doubled in the past year & a half. What did he tell us last night? Give him 4 more years to change everything. I though we did that already! They say his performance last was below expectations because he didn't put enough preparation work prior to it. I guess kind of like he does with everything else he's done as president. Just gone through the motion & put as little work as possible into his job. Like security meetings, he just reads briefs. The budget, oh ya, he's never had one. Security for our foreign embassy's on the anniversary of 9/11, oh the foreign countries will provide that so we don't need to!!! Well, if you are on social security, you are part of the 47% so you were insulted by that man and you are a real sucker if you vote for him. He is a parasite - he was successful alright - doing something that my conscience would not allow - going into failing companies, loading them up with debt (Bain fees were part of the debt) sucking the life out of them and then walking away. Just like that movie where the protagonist claimed - "Greed is good" and you want to accept that he is good and greedy and successful - fine but that is not a leader of a diverse nation. You are suckers if you vote Republican and you are not one of the 1% - and just like he talked about all of you behind your backs (although it was secretly recorded) if you cannot believe what he said with his own words, you are fools!

And Patsy --- you nor I know what Romney is - because he has not told us. He has said everything under the sun. He told his supporters at the fund raiser one thing. He has said that he will get rid of Obamacare but then he said he would keep coverage for preexisting conditions - though he didn't say how it was possible to accomplish that without a mandate - which he said he will get rid of. There is one thing clear - he is the leader of an extreme right wing party that is clear. and that is frightening. They want to take away abortion rights in this country even when the mother's life is at stake. What woman in her right mind would support a party that condones that (it is in the Republican platform - pay atention) They want to give massive tax breaks to the very wealthy. Who will pay for that? Romney says he will do away with deductions -- which ones? He won't say - Patsy - you have no idea if this man is a moderate or an extremist because he has played such a game and been so inconsistent that it is a mystery what he is. But one thing is clear - he is the leader of an extremist right wing party - socially far right And you better understand that when you go to vote. Any woman who votes Republican is out of her mind.

The wealthy do all the work? You mean like Donald Trump, who inherited $400 million? Or Willard Romney, who inherited money and connections from his father? Or George W. Bush, who drilled a bunch of dry holes on his father's friends' money? Tell the aides at the assisted living residence where my mother is who get ten bucks an hour to bathe and toilet and serve meals to these infirm elderly people that they don't work hard. Tell people like me, who work 80 hours a week in a professional-technical job but are not wealthy that we don't work hard. Your comment is disgusting and un-American.

The wealthy do all the work? really? Are they driving buses? Are they building anything? Are they cleaning the streets? What work does Romney do? He is paying 13% on an income of millions? What work is involved there? He lives off of his investments - is that work? When he was a Bain, he went into failing companies, loaded them with debt (even Bain's fees were put on the company's debt) so he had NO RISK it was a no risk endeavor. He just benefited no matter what he didn't even have to risk any money it was a no lose situation and there was no work involved. I tell you Mr. Steinm - if you think the wealthy do all the work and that the 47% who do not pay income tax are all welfare queens, you are just plain ignorant of the facts. If money makes the rich so happy, why do they need so much more? Money was supposed to be a judgement of how much one contributes to his or her society. Now it is just a measure of how much one can take from his or her society whether it was earned or stolen. Now it seems bad works pay the most. And we are gonna reap what we've let them sow. The very wealthy like the corporate raiders, didn't really have to work that hard for what they got. They took over companies, did not even risk their own money because they put the debt on the companies that they took over (even the fees due them were put on the take over companies) and then they let the companies sink or swim. Donald Trump came to Atlantic City to build casinos. He left without paying people for their work. He is not a good and decent businessman. He is smart and he is a schemer but he is not an honorable guy. These guys are schemers - con artists - they made tons of money but they are not necessary good citizens. I don't care what they did, but don't turn around and run for president of the united states if you cannot keep your money in the US and if you made it by putting the screws to hard working middle class people. Take you billions, buy your horses, hide your money in foreign accounts, but don't run for president because you are not a good citizen. The COW AND THE ICE CREAM
ONE OF THE BEST analogies OF WHY OBAMA WON THE ELECTION
From a teacher in the Nashville area
"We are worried about 'the cow' when it is all about the 'Ice Cream. 'The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching 3rd grade. The last Presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president. We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote. To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have. We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot.
The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids.
I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support.
I had never seen Olivia's mother.
The day arrived when they were to make their speeches.
Jamie went first.
He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place.
He ended by promising to do his very best.
Everyone applauded and he sat down.

TheGreatHoax

10:17 pm on Sunday, October 7, 2012

Now is was Olivia's turn to speak.
Her speech was concise. She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream." She sat down.
The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice cream."
She surely would say more. She did not have to.
A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure. But no one pursued that question. They took her at her word.
Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it...She didn't know.
The class really didn't care. All they were thinking about was ice cream...
Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a landslide.
Every time Barack Obama opened his mouth he offered ice cream and 51.4 % of the people reacted like nine year old's. They want ice cream.
The other 48.6% percent know they're going to have to feed the cow and clean up the mess."
This is the ice cream Obama promised us!
Remember, the government cannot give anything to anyone that they have not first taken away from someone else. Did you vote for the ice cream?
THAT MY FRIEND, IS HOW OBAMA GOT ELECTED...
BY THOSE WHO WANT EVERYTHING FOR FREE!

Personally, I am fine. I am already on social security which is good because when the bottom fell out of the economy (or actually when Countrywide and others destroyed the economy writing bad mortgage paper because they were just going to get rid of it like a hot potato and with no thought for the common good, got themselves rich) my hard working years were in the past. I paid into social security and saved money from all my hard work, so I am OK even if the Republicans get to take over one or two more times before they are extinct. And they will be extinct because they do not speak to our country's needs now. This is a country that is diverse - immigrants that have worked here all their lives, gays who want to be able to have marriage rights, young people who need help with college loans so they can contribute to their country and have choices beyond enlisting so that a immoral idiot like George Bush can send them into war for no reason. This country will no longer abide the hate mongers you read on this posting - the people who are so worried about giving a bit of help to poor children and women. Just like the relics on this posting who were Republicans years ago before the Republican Party was taken over by the extremists and these people are too blind to see the change - the Republican Party you see now is doomed - thank goodness!

And "... former President George W. Bush campaigned aboard a bus made partly by the same Quebec firm during his 2004 "Yes, America Can" tour across the country..."

Spooner, it doesn't require a college degree to see how the Left Wing uses the following with abundance:

* Race Card
* Class Warfare Card
* Politically Correct Speech Card

...Remember the documented history of the Democrats war against the U.S.Constitution.

* Democrats BLOCKED the right of freed slaves to become citizens;
* Democrats BLOCKED the right of women to vote;
* Democrats BLOCKED civil rights for children/families of freed slaves through Jim Crow laws;
* Democrats CREATED the Federal Reserve System that put a banking cartel in charge of our money supply;
* Democrats TAXED working Americans for the first time with an INCOME TAX;
* Democrats BLOCKED Civil Righs legislation in the 1950s through the mid-1960s (the only saving grace came from Harry Truman who desegregated the armed forces despite objections from leading Democrats).

...and spare me your disinformation that racist Democrats switched parties en masse to the RNC. That's a 100% lie. I already proved the disinformation and lie about that claim.

Have a nice day.

Amazing!

John Jay

1 in 5 registered voters in Ohio are fraudulent according to the Columbus Dispatch.

"Sunday edition of the Columbus Dispatch, in which readers were informed that “more than one out of every five registered Ohio voters is probably ineligible to vote.”

"Furthermore, “in two counties, the number of registered voters actually exceeds the voting age population: Northwestern Ohio’s Wood County shows 109 registered voters for every 100 eligible, while in Lawrence County along the Ohio River it’s a mere 104 registered per 100 eligible.”

"31 more counties report over 90 percent voter registration, which is a good 20 percent higher than the national average. The Buckeye State sure is civic-minded! Well, except that 1.6 million of the 7.8 million registered voters in the state haven’t voted in at least four years. So I guess they were civic minded, once upon a time. Never fear – I’m sure plenty of those “inactive” voters will reactivate themselves just in time for Barack Obama’s re-election." InActive/Ineligible voter doesn't equal fraudulent Voter and now that's what Republicans in Ohio are trying to Assert. Inactive voters are sometimes ineligible because they have not voted for a long time, which is common in any state, that doesn't make them cheaters, it just means they have to update their records.

Republicans are so desperate, they need voters to stay home & NOT vote in order for them to win. You're 39 times more likely to be struck by lightning then to encounter voter fraud. Fact: You need proof of identity. A photo ID is one way to prove identity. You can’t be turned down for SNAP/Food Stamps benefits because you don’t have photo ID. In case you need the definition of fraud here it is: Intentional, repeat Intentional Deception.
If Republicans still want ID's after the Presidential election then fine, make it a nationwide requirement & don't let each state, especially those with Republicans now temporarily in charge develop their own set of peculiar & unreasonable ID laws.

Spooner - Medicare is a bust and unless it is reformed I, in my early 50's, will never see it. You disclaim the Cato Institute's findings which say, "A typical couple retiring last year will, on average, pay $150,000 in Medicare taxes over their lifetime, but receive more than $350,000 in benefits. As a result, the program ran a combined deficit of more than $288 billion last year. Going forward, the most optimistic scenario puts Medicare's future unfunded liabilities at more than $35 trillion. More realistic estimates suggest that the shortfall could actually exceed $90 trillion." Do you dispute the math? Unless we strategize now to save the system later, it simply will not be there. The government is good at certain things, but should not even attempt to tackle healthcare. It is not their role and not their specialty.

Spooner - I think "late to the party" is an issue with anyone but Boehner. If Medicare reform was indeed a priority, why didn't the President address it out of the gate when his popularityband numbers in both houses were more beneficial to his agenda? I see little deficit reduction without major entitlement reform. Say what you will about the Ryan plan, at least he has one and is willing to put something on the table as a starting point. What has President Obama offered up? My whole philosophy on the inception of Medicare sees it through a social alteration perspective. A variety of national healthcare was fought for nearly 30 years before it was finally passed in the 60's. Prior to its passage (and related expenses) care for the elderly fell upon families and charities. I'm in no way saying that we have the capacity to return to that time, but it is interesting how legislation reforms culture.

Seeking- It does matter who becomes President. Look at Johnson's war on poverty. He was in for only 5 years and we now have what is the cause of much of our financial mess,... welfare, food stamps, medicare. And in some cases all it takes is the swipe of a pen. Our food stamp roles have increased 17 million since Obama took office. Mostly because Obama did away with the resource limit for households applying for the program. Until Obama households were expected to cash in some of their more disposible assets. Not anymore. As long as an applicant can show no or very little income they can qualify for the program. If they can hide their income then nice cars and luxury items are OK. AND, if they qualify for food stamps then they can apply for a free cell phone. There's your "Obama phone" [slang term].
Some people need safety nets. I'm not saying these programs have not done a lot of good. But when you throw trillions of dollars and that much man power at a problem then just by dumb luck something is going to stick. That doesn't mean we can now point to those "successes" and say "look it works, we more more of the same".
My opinion is based on over 30 years experience as a social worker working with these programs and the population they are supposed to serve.
Those 17 million new food stamp recipients are getting perhaps several hundreds of additional income a month. Who are they going to thank when they go into the voting booth? That's what Romney meant.

Obama is breaking the law
by taking money from foreign contributors on a website Obama.com owned by by Obama bundler Robert Roche, a U.S. citizen living in Shanghai, China. Roche is the chairman of a Chinese infomercial company, Acorn International, with ties to state-controlled banks that allow it to “gain revenue through credit card transactions with Chinese banks.”

I had a friend overseas try to send in money. There was no verification process. Illegal

Not only does Obama borrow trillions from China to pay for Medicare, he gets campaign money from China too.

Romney "won" the debate. He came out and completely changed the story he has told for 2 years now. He completely changed fromt he extreme right wing guy who told his fund raising party that the 47% think of themselves as victims. He was fact checked and it was all bogus. He was a one term Governor - his state came in 47th in job creation. He spent the rest of his life raping companies and sending work oversees. If you think Obama was on something during that debate - I think Romney went against his Mormon religion and drank a Red Bull because he was a nervous bithering fool. Look, you right wing guys who want to control women's health, take away funding from the poor so they get poorer and then this country is like South America where there is just the rich and just the poor and the rich have to live behind bars for protection. I doubt any of you - John Jay Kemonash I mean whatever you are calling yourself, I doubt you are rich - because you spend all day on this site instead of working. OK...the posts are hanging up. Let's try this again: Stinki Garbaage and Keith: I have to disagree with notion that Obama was conducting an experiment. EVERYTHING Obama is doing is specifically designed to fracture the American economy, corrupt our kids, and further his radical agenda.

Review the political philosophy of this man:

* Obama grew up in the company of Frank Marshall Davis -- one of the most notorious Communist Party USA members. Davis' agenda was to destroy the United States from WITHIN. Davis specifically spoke and wrote about how it was important to corrupt American youth, nationalize our healthcare system -- even take over General Motors -- in order to achieve Communist goals.

* Obama was openly supported financially and politically by known, and self-professed terrorist William Ayers and his wife. Obama received financial support from Ayers equally radical, but very rich father. How Obama could sit in same room with a self-avowed terrorist and murderer is beyond me.

* Obama openly praised Saul Alinsky, the Left Wing radical -- and has even helped appoint people to run Organizing for America (OFA) -- which is basically an ACORN-based tool to brain-wash American teens into supporting Democrat agenda items like Obamacare.

...but the Left Wing people here will just make excuses for Obama and the radicals, murderers, and Communists that helped shape the (alleged) man he is today.

Spooner - I don't know of many reasonable people who would suggest "ignoring" poverty and injustices in America or anywhere else for that matter. What we don't do effectively is get to the root causes of multi-generational welfare dependence. I pose to you that our social service programs do far more to enslave people and dissolve the human desire for personal responsibility. A generation of immigrants made it to this country with little help or expectation of hand outs. American-born citizens offered free housing, free education, free food stamps, free cell phones and free healthcare have continued down the entitlement path to the point we find ourselves now. We continue to feed this ever hungry monster of dependence with little or no expectations that people will eventually fend for themselves. I think the reason we do so is far more diabolical and deliberate...Democrats are harvesting voters among this dependent population. I can think of no humane reason to keep people in poverty. The single best social service program is a job.

"different animals" watch out that sounds racist.

Good question - where are the jobs? Do tax increases create jobs? Does spending $1.5 trillion a year more than you have create jobs? I'd have to say these 2 things don't help create jobs.

As for Obama and Alinsky. They are tied at the hip.

http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/294454/still-alinsky-playbook-john-fund?pg=1

Alinsky’s tactics of intimidation are a case in point. His most oft-quoted rule is “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. . . . One acts decisively only in the conviction that all the angels are on one side and all the devils on the other.”

Obama’s White House has honed that tactic to perfection. In 2009, then– communications director Anita Dunn sneered that Fox News “really is not a news network at this point.” President Obama himself has, in the spirit of Alinsky, gone out of his way to lambaste “fat-cat bankers” and greedy health insurers.

“[The administration has] shown they’ll go after anybody or any organization that they think is standing in their way,” Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell said in a February speech. “You know the drill. Expose these folks to public view, release the liberal thugs on them, and then hope the public pressure or the unwanted attention scares them from supporting similar causes down the road.”

Spooner - The jobs are exactly where the elite leftists want them....in government. I never specified that I was speaking about "African Americans" either, but it's interesting that when "poverty" is mentioned your thoughts went in that direction. I, however, do agree that the poverty experienced by incoming immigrants in the 50's and 60's was different than that of Americans who found themselves poor at the same time. Those immigrants did not speak the language so they had an additional cross to bear. Lastly, it is human nature to surround oneself with like-minded people. We do it in our social lives all the time. Obama surrounded himself with interesting "birds of a feather," e.g. Edward Said, Palestinian radical, Roberto Mangabeira Unger, who has called for an alliance among Russia, China, India & Brazil to knock the US down a peg, Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright. I think to disavow himself from these relationships leads me to think Obama views Americans as fools.
