One-Pitch Tourney to Honor Jon Bitman
The annual Little Silver event will be dedicated to the councilman, and softball player, whose friends called "Hitman."
Little Silver will celebrate the life and influence of Jon Bitman on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the annual one-pitch tournament.
Known to his friends and teammates as "Hitman," the former councilman lost his 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer on Sept. 4.
"Our aim to make this the best tourney and Family Day ever," said Bitman's friend, teammate and event organizer Peter Roskowinski in an e-mail. "Jon always loved the way the community came out on this day and this one will make him proud."
The festivities, which kick off at 1 p.m. at Borough Field, will include BBQ Chicken, Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, Squeeze Pops and Lemonade and a full day of softball.
A Web site has been created to allow those interested to donate to the Jon Bitman Memorial (PayPal will be available soon). The site also provides a full listing of sponsorship opportunities available. Organizers are also looking for volunteers to help out at the event.
