Oceanport Resident Reports Phone Scam
The caller claimed to be a friend in need of money.
An Oceanport resident reported to police last month that he had been targeted in a phone scam.
According to Oceanport Police records, the Monmouth Boulevard resident visited headquarters on June 20 and reported receiving a phone call by an unknown individual claiming to be a friend visiting Canada. The alleged friend advised he was in trouble and needed money sent to him. The resident did not know the individual.
The resident tried calling the number back, but it did not accept incoming calls. This matter is under investigation by the department's detective bureau.
Oceanport Police Chief Harold Sutton handled the matter.
