Oceanport Rec Bringing New Events to Town in 2013

A town-wide survey yielded ideas to broaden the committee's offerings.

Get ready for scavenger hunts, a bocce tournament and pig roast in Oceanport this year, all compliments of the borough's parks and recreation committee.

The committee sent out a survey to residents in the fall to determine what, if any, free events should be added to the already packed roster.

The results, according to Chairman Mike Minervini in a post on Facebook, are as follows:

1. Oceanport Town Wide Scavenger Hunt (likely on March 9)
2. Oceanport Mini Golf Tournament (April 20)
3. Oceanport Music in the Park/Bocce Ball Tournament at Old Wharf Park (June)
4. Oceanport Pool Party, Pig Roast and Pool Party (August)

Based on the success of last summer's movie in the park, Oceanport Rec will host four movies in 2013 at Blackberry Bay Park for residents.

Minervini also said that two spots were still available on the committe. "If you desire to work with a fun group of people looking to continue to bring our community together through events & recreations, please let me know," he added.

Interested residents can contact Minervini by phone at 732-688-4922 or e-mail at mminervini@remax.net

To clarify, the Mini Golf Tournament and Scavenger Hunt are a go! The Pool Party/Pig Roast/Luau and the Music in the Park/Bocce Tournament ideas are in developmental stages. All of these activities are open to all Oceanport residents only. More information will follow!
