Oceanport Post Office Estimated to Reopen in 2 Weeks
The building suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Sandy.
Oceanport's post office, closed for over three months after Hurricane Sandy, could reopen within the next few weeks, according to Councilman Joseph Irace.
"We just got word yesterday they are estimating two weeks," Irace posted on Facebook Tuesday.
While mail delivery in the borough resumed shortly after the storm, the East Main Street branch had remained closed due to structural damage.
According to Borough Clerk and Administrator Kim Jungfer last week, the building was "functionally ready" and the borough had been "actively communicating" with postal officials about replacing equipment and reopening as soon as possible.
In the interim, operations and staff had been relocated to the Eatontown USPS processing and distribution center on Industrial Way in Eatontown.
