Monmouth Park Passed Over to Host 2013 Breeders' Cup
The Oceanport racetrack will pursue hosting the race in 2014.
Monmouth Park has lost out on its bid to host the 2013 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, according to a report on NJ.com.
The new operators of the racetrack confirmed on Thursday that the Oceanport racetrack was not selected to host "horse racing’s richest event" next year.
“We’re definitely pursuing (2014),” Bob Kulina, president of Darby Development, the new operators of Monmouth, was quoted in the article. “(The Breeders’ Cup Association) haven’t come to us with an official rejection (for 2013), but they want us to continue to pursue (2014).”
Monmouth Park last hosted the Breeders' Cup in 2007. This year's race will be hosted at Santa Anita on Nov. 2 and 3, and will feature 15 races and over $25 million in purses.
