For most of us living in Little Silver and Oceanport, there's no need to get in the car to see some of the damage inflicted by Hurricane Sandy's raging winds. There's plenty of destruction within walking distance.

Which is good, because Little Silver officials issued a Two River Alert Tuesday advising residents to stay off the roads.

As of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, all traffic lights are out, causing vehicles to slowly navigate through intersections.

Oceanport's Main Street is closed just north of the firehouse because of downed wires.

Traffic traveling north on Port Au Peck past the Monmouth Park car lots is being diverted back down East Main Street and an electronic sign indicates that travel to Little Silver and Long Branch is suspended due to closed bridges.

And with both the 7 Eleven and Cumberland Farms closed, along with all other businesses in the boroughs, what's the point of leaving home anyway?

The bottom line, I think, is stay off the streets. Both Little Silver and Oceanport officials are urging the same. Good time to brush up on your Scrabble skills.
