Little Silver Appropriates $1.7M for Sandy Cleanup

Cleaning up after Sandy could cost Little Silver up to $1.7 million.
The borough council authorized the appropriation of that amount Monday to fund the removal of the mounds of debris cleared from properties and damage sustained by borough structures following the super storm.
Borough Attorney John O. Bennett, III stressed at the Nov. 19 council meeting that the borough might not necessarily spend the full amount, the balance of which will be paid back over five years at $340,000 annually. The borough will also apply for the maximum reimbursement from FEMA, which will be applied to clean up costs.
The mayor and council approved $7,100 in repairs to the borough's public works building to Paul Caruso Construction in Long Branch for damage sustained during Sandy. The storm also damaged the borough's boat ramp and boat house at Santelle Park off Riverview Avenue.
Removal of construction and demolition debris will be ongoing, said Mayor Robert Neff, Jr. The borough has stopped removal of vegetative waste from streets by a private hauler but public works will continue to clear piles.
"The borough's doing what it can within its budget," Neff said. "It's not unlimited."

Why so much $? Are we going to see a breakdown of the costs? Why is Oceanport appropriating so much less money? This is from the Oceanport article... " as the borough attorney for a number of local municipalities, he's seen how different towns have used different methods for clearing debris following the hurricane. One local town hired what Bennett referred to as a "vulture company" to clean vegetation waste from streets and found that the initial $400,000 estimate for the work ballooned over two weeks to $900,000. That town also hired a monitor to oversee applying for FEMA assistance, which cost another $167,000."
Is this Little Silver, the attorney is speaking of?????

Your deraming if you think FEMA will give out anything other than token money to any town whose average family income is 90K ......Oceanport /Little Silver ain't no New Orleans ...ever hear the expression "let them eat cake "......I can hear Obama whispering it into Christie ear ....

We'd like to know who is responsible for cleanup of the electrical waste that's been sitting on Azalea Court for three weeks, including 2 transformers, broken streetlights and telephone poles, and cable wires dangling from trees. Children play on this street and we can't believe it hasn't been attended to thus far.

Just a thought on the price difference. The borough of Little Silver repairs/replacing things properly that was damaged from the storm. The borough of Oceanport has decided to either band aid items or get rid of them.
