Things just got interesting for Little Silver voters with the recent addition of another candidate vying for two seats on borough council.

Dan Levine, who served on council for three years before losing his bid for mayor in 2011, will run as an Independent candidate to regain his seat on Nov. 6.

Levine, who owns Little Silver Community Hardware, will oppose Republican incumbent David Gilmour and Dr. Richard Scott, who was appointed to serve on the council following the death in September of Councilman Jonathan Bitman.

Levine, who has lived in Little Silver for 45 years, has served as a borough-appointed representative to the Northeast Regional Sewer Authority for 10 years and held positions as treasurer and chair of the finance committee there.

While running for mayor last year, Levine told Patch: "I have not shied away from asking the probing question that led my fellow council members to consider an alternate view. Whether my position ultimately prevailed was not important. What was important was that I helped introduce a more robust discussion of the issues that helped bring about a better ultimate decision. I strongly feel that having a variety of outlooks weighing in on the decisions facing Little Silver is important."
