FMERA Expected To Vote on Lease for DPW Site at Fort Monmouth
FMERA meeting scheduled for Wednesday night in Tinton Falls
After almost two months of discussion between the county, Eatontown and borough residents, the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) will be voting tonight on subleasing the motor pool property from the authority to the county.
The county's plan to build a department of public works yard with a fueling station, salt storage area and 911 communications tower has been met with frustration and anger from Eatontown residents, especially those who would live near the proposed facility.
The county reworked its plan to satisfy some of the public's complaints, but residents are still not happy.
County officials have said they need the facility to provide better services such as snow plowing to residents in the area. They have said the cost of building the DPW yard at Fort Monmouth would also be substantially cheaper than any other location.
The FMERA board is expected to vote tonight on a one-year lease, with a six-month extension option that would give the property to the county. This property is located outside those properties defined by phase I of the agreement between the Army and FMERA, and therefore requires a special short term lease. After the phase II agreement is approved, FMERA will look to sell the property to the county for a permanent home for its highway division.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Tinton Falls Municipal Building, 556 Tinton Ave.
Patch will be there to let you know how the board votes and will have a story after the meeting.
