Empty in Little Silver: Wicker Rose

Now that the long, long, long-empty property near the train station has been purchased, what would you like to see go there?

News that the super-long vacated Wicker Rose property across from the Little Silver Train Station has been purchased couldn't have come at a better time.

The upcoming closing of The Art Room, right around the corner of Ayers Lane next to Dance Plus, will add just one more empty commercial space in that area, and we can't really afford to lose any more businesses.

By quick count, the studio joins the former Giovanni's, Sole Solution, Exxon and the aforementioned Wicker Rose and gas station properties. There's also an empty space along the bend onto Willow that used to house an auto mechanic (please, someone help me with the name). Even the train station remains without a concession provider, even though there had been talk of Rook Coffee Roasters taking over.

But we digress, since there has actually been movement on the property that has been tied up in that complicated Dweck mess, and now we can dream about what we'd like for our town. We are told the new property owner is looking to develop the property for a low-traffic commercial use, such as a retail establishment or a bank.

Any thoughts?

A bank ? ...I thought LS was not allowing anymore banks in town ....It seems that was the idea behind buying up that empty lot across from the fire house and saddling the taxpayers with more open space taxes plus losing a new ratable ....

I know LS is essentially dry, but that is an ideal spot for a family tavern along the lines of Val's. We could use a gathering spot in town that is suitable for families and that is walkable for much of the community. It isn't near homes and is perfect for picking of commuters that could meet their families for a nice dinner.

I second that. I would love to see a family restaurant where you could grab a dinner with your kids or a drink with your girlfriend.

A family restaurant for lunch and dinner would be great and very welcomed!!! Perfect location for it too.

The town can auction a retail consumption (liquor) license and that will be a viable location for a restaurant with the train station right there. Such a license can fetch $250K easy. Maybe the operators can name it "Mike's." (sorry, couldn't resist)

I agree. Would love to see a friendly little tavern near the station. It would give more character to the town and would be a great meeting spot at the end of the day.
