Car Drives Off Parkway, Crashes Into Another on Middletown-Lincroft Road

Both drivers were taken to the hospital.

A car traveling in the Garden State Parkway southbound expresss lanes near mile marker 112 in Middletown went off the roadway, down an embankment, and crashed into a vehicle traveling along Middletown-Lincroft Road around 6 p.m. Wednesday night.

State Police Sgt. Philip Stolfa said that the driver who left the Parkway was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune with severe neck pain. The helicopter flew from the fields at Middletown South High School.

"He is possibly going to be charged with DWI," said Stolfa, who said police suspected the driver was under the influence due to his behavior, and what they found in the car. The officer said the driver's blood would be tested in the hospital.

The driver on Middletown-Lincroft Road was also taken to Jersey Shore with minor injuries.

Responding to the scene of the accident were Police, First Aid and rescue squads from Lincroft, as well as Leonardo, Middletown and Fairview squads. Also, Lincroft Fire Co. was dispatched for the extrication and River Plaza Fire Co. covered the medical evacuation landing zone.

If you drive drunk, and injure someone in the process, you should be treated and charged as any other criminal. And I don't just mean heavy fines and loss of driving priveleges.

I witnessed this horrifying act last night with two children in my car. We were only two cars behind the car he slammed into. The driver broke the railing and careened off the parkway from above us and crossed over Middletown Lincroft at a high speed. He certainly seemed under the influence. Had Middletown-Lincroft Road been as crowded at this time as it usually is this could have been much worse. He needs to at the very least lose his license forever.

How horrible for you! I witnessed a single car accident at the sharp curve by the farm just up the road more than thirty years ago, (after the Hunt Meet - remember those?,) and I still think about it every time I travel that road, which is frequently. Well, it will be a great lesson to your children, once they get over the horror of it.

I agree with you all, and add that the person who supplied him with the liquor should be charged also. Only through tough laws are we finally going to stop this.

Why always blame 'the person who supplied them with liquor?' These people are SUPPOSED to be ADULTS and should know when they had too much....They shouldn't have to have a baby sitter.....
I know I'm going to get a lot of backlash on this - but think about it - You are the only one responsible for what you choose to do - not the sales clerk, bartender or whom ever - IT'S YOU......People have to stop blaming bars, liquor stores and restaurants....

Lets not get crazy we all have had a few too many and got behind the wheel i think a stern talking to would be enough to ensure this doesnt happen again.

People make mistakes. And no, he was not drinking. You don’t even know the whole story. This person could have narcolepsy for all you know or another condition. Let’s thank God that everyone is alive, and stop this "let's put him in a cage." nonsense.

Have you ever done anything that you regretted in your lifetime?

You must be so perfect to make slandering comments about a situation and a person and that you don't even know. I have a PhD in Education, and I know just as the rest of the posts are respectfully honest, and I respect their opinion, but unless you know the facts, then keep your mouth quiet.

What if it was you that made this mistake, or your child, or wife did, would you consider them animals as well?

Think before you speak and write disgraceful comments on the message board. I can accept the posts of the previous author's, but your post is simply reprehensible.

Have a heart and think about both sides. The driver who remains in the hospital with multiple injures, and the one that was hit has now been released. This person is currently having excruciating pin and internal turmoil over this out of character event that took pace. Don’t spew your hatred here. Have an educated conversation for once.

Well when the police say to the news "he may possibly be charged with DWI" that usually leads the general public to believe he was drinking and driving. When the blood test comes back we will all find out the truth. And if it is DWI, then yes. He should be punished to the full extent.

narcolepsy - Really? Human error, talking on the phone, a sneeze even, but I highly doubt narcolepsy.

Anonymous source. No alcohol was in his system as he does not drink, not even a few after work on Friday. He is a very hard worker who travels to manhattan every morning at 4 am to to heavy foundation construction and doesn't get home til 6:30pm. There was a lapse of judgement between this beaten down individual and his abilility to stay awake. Yes , poor judgement, and his heart and prayers go out to the person who crashed into him. He WILL make huge adjustments in his lifestyle that do not include alcohol, as he does not drink. Get the reports to see for yourself. He is NOT an animal, just made a TERRIBLE mistake that will never happen again. You are all entitled to your opinion, as am I .
