Bites Nearby: Jersey Shore BBQ Restaurant and Catering
Traditional slow cooked Texas BBQ a popular spot in Belmar.
If you are a BBQ lover like me, you should definitely take a trekk down route 35 to 8th Avenue in Belmar and visit Jersey Shore BBQ and Catering.
Mastering traditional Texan BBQ, they not only produce mouth watering meats, but do with generous portions and at an affordable price. Stressing the method of time and patience, they cook their ribs for 4 hours, brisket for 12 hours, pork shoulder for 10 hours and chickens for 3 hours. If you have taste for the best type of BBQ, check them out. With a liquor store right across the street, enjoy your meal with a 6 pack.
I went with a group of hungry people, which is really the only way to go. That way you can sample a little bit of everything. For starters, we ordered three types of wings -- habanero apricot, jalapeno honey, and traditional buffalo. The habanero was the spiciest, with a taste of sweet due to the apricot, and the jalapeno honey was a treat as well.
Wings are a guilty pleasure of mine, and I always jump at the opportunity to taste ones with sauce combinations you can't get anywhere else. The Killer BBQ nachos were delicious as well, topped with pulled pork, jalapenos, ranch beans, sour cream, and homemade pico de gallo.
When it came time to make an entree decision, I decided to go all out in order to satisfy my palate that day -- I had a pulled pork sandwich on a crisp bun and topped with their coleslaw. It really hit the spot, and enough food to take half home, and at only $8.
The sloppy joe looked delicious too -- as they advertise it -- "tender brisket, pulled pork, fried and slaw, piled high".
If you are hungrier than what the sandwich menu offers, they offer ridiculous meat platters: The Belmar Duo, (any two meats plus two sides), the Monmouth Tri-fect (any three meats plus sides), the Quartermaster (see a trend?) and the Spring Lake 5. The apricot glazed grilled chicken also sounds great, and seemingly waist-conscious.
The next time I visit, I will go with someone who is in the mood for ribs, so that we can split them. They feature baby back ribs, St. Louis ribs, half rack rib meal offering two sides, and half rack solo. The sides featured are seasonal vegetables, hand cut fries, mac-n-cheese, hand cut sweet potato fries, ranch beans, cornbread, cole slaw, or side salad.
Sides can be added to any entree, or you can have a "heaping portion" for $4.
All in all, visit this eatery hungry, and expect to take leftovers. You won't be disappointed.
