Batteries Scarce in Little Silver

Masses wipe out supply of "C" and "D"s, flashlights at local stores, though bottled water and other supplies are still available.

For last minute shoppers looking to visit the Little Silver CVS to stock up on batteries and flashlights to prepare for Hurricane Irene, you will want to try elsewhere.

As of 1 p.m. Saturday, the shelves were barren at the Prospect Avenue store, with a "sold out" sign listing "C" and "D" batteries, as well as flashlights and LED lights, among items wiped out by the masses.

Sickles Market is also out of batteries, but noted on their Facebook page that while they might not be the first place to come to mind when it comes to emergency supplies, they are "well-stocked with candles and matches, prepared foods, milk, eggs, candies, chips, pretzels, produce, cases of water and sodas, etc." Sickles is open until 6 p.m. Saturday, weather-permitting.

Little Silver Family Pharmacy has "AA," "AAA," and 9-volt batteries left, but no "C"s, "D"s, or flashlights. They've also got radios, bottled water, and snacks. They will be open until 4 p.m.

Walgreens has "AA," "AAA," and 9-volt batteries left, but no "C" or "D"s. They are open until 10 p.m. tonight.

A&P still has water, soda, and other supplies, but no batteries. They are open until 10 p.m. tonight.
