Argument Over Money Led to Wife's Death, Prosecution Claims [VIDEO]

Patrick F. Allen, accused of killing his wife, Kimberly, made his first court appearance Monday and was denied a reduction in bail.

A silent, shackled and tearful Patrick F. Allen, of Lincroft, faced a Monmouth County judge Monday and heard a prosecutor allege that he had caused the "violent" death of his wife Kimberly, through blunt force trauma and asphyxiation, in the heat of an argument over finances on Friday.

Allen’s attorney, John Charles Allen, of New Brunswick, who is also the defendant's first cousin, asked Superior Court Judge Paul Escandon for a reduction of his $1.5 million bail with no 10 percent option, citing his client’s familial support, financial hardship and lack of any prior criminal background to argue that Patrick Allen posed no flight risk.

The judge denied the request.

“Nothing has been submitted to support the allegations,” the defense attorney said. “And that’s what they are — allegations.” Further stating his case for his client's bail reduction, John Allen told the judge that Patrick Allen “came home and called police” to report his wife’s death.

Prosecutor Marc LeMieux stated that there is evidence that Patrick Allen suffocated and bludgeoned his wife during an argument, left their West Front Street home for nearly an hour and then returned and called police.

Patrick Allen, tearful and red in the face, hung his head as LeMieux described the medical examiner’s findings that the death of Kimberly Allen, Patrick's "wife of 20 years," had resulted from “homicidal violence, including asphyxia and blunt object injuries to the head.”

Arguing against a reduction in bail, LeMieux said there was a “strong likelihood of conviction."

Although Allen's two children and ties to the community are what the defense pointed to as anchor reasons why his client would not flee, the prosecutor said that "the fact of the matter is that in the community that he has ties to is where he committed this crime."

John Allen said that unless Patrick Allen is freed on bail, he will be unable to work to support his children and keep current on his mortgage payments, adding, “if that home is lost, not only will they be taking a home away from the children, but they will taking his only asset."

Pointing to people in the courtroom pews, who he said were relatives of Patrick Allen, John Allen said that their support boded as a strong indicator that “there is no evidence whatsoever to support the contention that my client is a flight risk.”

Reaffirming his denial of the request for bail reduction, Judge Escandon told Patrick Allen, “If you should make bail, sir, you are restricted from the scene and must turn in your passport."

As Patrick Allen was escorted out of the courtroom and back to jail, a woman in the front row, where John Allen said his family was sitting, leaned over, called out his name and blew him a kiss.

KIm and Pat epitomized the perfect couple...they were both very involved in the communmity and would help anyone at the drop of a hat. They seemed to live an idyllic life and were highly respected and loved by everyone who knew them. The video/pix of Pat in this article shows a broken man...it doesn't even look like Pat. Please God help this broken family.

Lisa- obviously not as perfect as we think. Motive was money. 90k missing and wife was upset but he didn't have to murder her. I had a friend who's been married for 17 years. Perfect couple until I found out her husband verbally abuses her for the last 17 years of their marriage. She is afraid to leave --no financial means...We don;t know what goes on behind CLOSED doors! Awful!

Terrible what happened! Someone said the wife found 90k missing? What a horrible tragedy. He could have just walked away or divorced her. He obviously snapped...and look what it cost him> his children who have to suffer through this traumatic event. God rest Kimberly's soul. Her obituary is in today's paper in APP.

In the past year or so there have been numerous burglaries and home break ins in the Middletown/Lincroft area. The Prosecutor has "His Opinion" of what happened. We will have to wait to see if the Prosecutor has any solid "evidence" to back up his 'opinion' with. A Grand Jury will decide it there is enough 'evidence' for a trial. Stop and THINK. Anyone of us can leave our home and come home to find our spouse dead as the result of a break in and burglary___and we also would be the prime suspect. Knowing she was hit on the head and knowing she was strangled alone___IS Not proof as to who did it. Since he lives there it is NORMAL for his fingerprints to be on everything in the home.

Praying for the Allen family that they may find healing from this horriffic tragedy. Regardless of what happened, Mrs. Allen is gone, violently and prematurely, Mr. Allen is in prison and their 2 sons will have this event to bear the rest of their lives, forever changed.

I haven't stopped thinking of this nightmare since the day I heard of this, it is scary to think that the closest person to you can snap just like that. It is so easy to judge people, as I did when I heard about this, but now all I think about is how this man snaped and in a second his whole life changed, his innocent kids will never be the same again, and his wife is dead all because of money and what money can do to people. Money is evil and it breaks people down. I think this man is as shocked at what he did just like we all were. He became enraged, and in a mere second he became a murderer. I feel for everyone, even Mr Allen, he is in a horrible place right now, a place I'm sure he never thought he'd be in. Although He deserves to be in jail for the rest of his life for ruining his family. I now feel his pain of lonliness and sorrow.

Amber - there has been nothing shown that indicates he didn't do it has there? If so please point it out???? A judge would not set bail at 1 million without bond unless there was subsantial evidence...maybe you should get Nancy Grace on the case to prove he is not guilty!

"The Middletown man accused of murdering his wife during an argument handed at least one bag containing evidence to the crew of a garbage truck before leaving home but returning later to report that he discovered his spouse dead, according to authorities." The bloody frying pan he used to bludgeon her.

If he doesn't get out on bail, he can't pay his mortgage? How's he going to pay it while he's in jail? He needs to sell the house now and put the money away for the kids, he'll never see them again as a free man, and once they learn he murdered their mom, probably not at all.
